Growing up my aunt always used to pass me down her amazing cashmere sweaters (some which I still own today). The funny thing was she used to tell me to wear them around the house because they were so yummy and cozy.  Yummy is normally an adjective to describe food. Now, every time I find a fabric I cannot live without, the first word that comes to mind is yummy.  I find myself searching for brands that use high quality materials, because when you wear them, you can tell the difference.

When I came across Maison Du Soir from my friend Nina, I knew this was going to be a brand I loved. Working from home definitely has its perks when it comes to casual wear. Most days I get up and put on an outfit, but some days, I end up working until 6pm still wearing my pjs.  Courtney, the principal designer and owner of this amazing sleepwear company, is focused on creating silhouettes that are flattering, but more importantly she pays attention to the quality of the fabrics (just think the yummiest silks and cottons). After chatting with Courtney last week, I found out she is not only a clothing designer, but a former ballerina- this makes me love the company even more.  She worked in the fashion industry for some time and realized there was something missing; wearable sleepwear.  Her pieces can be mixed and matched to create multiple different looks, while still feeling good about yourself (no more grey sweatpants).  Her Fall line is releasing soon, and I am sure it is going to be equally as amazing to the pieces above.

Navy, ruffles, and one-piece. My new obsession.

I have always been a fan of the romper (jumper, whatever you decide to call it) but especially when it is  100+ degrees outside and nothing seems to be comfortable enough to wear. There is something so easy about throwing on a romper, great pair of heels and calling it a day.

Today kicks off my birthday week (Friday I turn the big 2-6), which is actually feeling a little surreal.  It could possibly be because exactly a year ago I was packing up our house and Kansas City and taking a major leap of faith changing careers and turing 25 all at the same time. So much has changed in a year.  We moved cities again, started another new job, got engaged, settled into 2 different homes, met new friends, and traveled all over the US. If you are a frequent reader, you already know now for the 3rd year in a row, I am in a new city on a new birthday. This year seems especially special because I am celebrating with my fiance by my side, in the city we think we will be spending forever in (but things always change :)). We have spent 7 of my birthdays together and somehow he always finds a way to make my day extra special no matter where we end up finding ourselves.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my mind full with inspiration or a favorite song on repeat, to the point that all I can do is sit up and start writing. Last night was one of those nights.

Maybe since my birthday is around the corner, and turning another year older is on my mind; I couldn’t help but imagine all of the things I want to start checking off my list; one being exploring my own city. We are all guilty of falling into a routine, you know that wake up, work, workout, eat dinner, watch tv, bed, repeat type of routine but last night  I started craving more. Maybe it has something to do with all of our recent travels, but I am wanting something different. I want to read more, venture to new parts of the city I have yet to explore and listen to music that inspires me.

I always revert to the classics to find the most inspiration and this outfit is no different. A twist on the classic white and denim is the perfect blank slate. To itch that craving to explore, we ventured to a new part of the city last night.  A part full of leather wearing, tattoo filled folks, only to find myself in the most girly outfit I could find. But maybe it’s okay to feel different every so often.
