LATELY

happybirthdaypatrick_1

Today is an extra special day.  Not because Christmas is only 4 days away or that tomorrow marks one year of being engaged, but because it is someone special’s birthday.  We have been celebrating all weekend with fun dinners with friends, holiday parties, and lots puppy snuggles.  I am a pretty lucky girl to have found the love of my life and to be celebrating six birthdays together.

Each year at this time I love to look back and reflect on where I was the year before and think about how much has changed, how much has stayed the same, and all of the experiences I have to look forward to for the next year. Last December 22, Patrick and I were snowed-in at Patrick’s parents house in Kansas City with a little dose of the stomach flu. It was one day before I said yes to spending the rest of my life with the most amazing man. We were currently living in small town Ohio, and getting ready to start our year of adventure.  If you follow us on Instagram, you would notice 2014 was our year of traveling, moving, and lots of changes (but honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way). In between weekends traveling to Toronto, New York, Boston, San Diego and so many others, we took a leap of faith and moved to Dallas to take on the biggest adventure of our lives.  Within 2 weeks, we moved cross-county, found a house and started new jobs. We are still learning everyday how to make Dallas our home, but  I love this is the place we are putting down roots.

We have so many exciting things happening in 2015 that I cannot wait to share with you soon! But until then, I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday with family and friends. I am so thankful for all of your support over the last 4 years, because if it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be A Dash of Details.  :)

FORM HAIR EDUCATION + GIVEAWAY

To be honest whenever I try an up-do, I end up looking more like a hot mess. (please tell me I am not alone on this).

Last week I was invited to attend FORM Hair Education with a few of my favorite Dallas blogger girls.  This event could not have come at a better time since Holiday parties are in full swing and I needed some ideas about how to switch it up from my normal, down and curled look.

FORM Hair Education was created by the extremely talented Whitney Haynes when she found that her passion was teaching others. FORM was created as a “community of hair professionals committed to the growth of [their] craft, creativity, and continuing education.” The best part is they teach their clients to style their hair like a pro in just a short amount of time.  Each of their classes are customized and try to have you leaving the course with the knowledge to repeat the look at home.  I loved how Whitney and the other stylist made a point to come over and give me tips on how to create the look for my texture and length of hair.

FORM Hair Education has four courses; Beautiful Blow Dry (I am going to be taking this one next!), Perfect Ponytail, Glamorous Curls, and Tousled Up-Do Style- this is the class we took last week which was perfect in time for those little LBD’s or low back dresses.

Here are a few things I learned (honestly, I was really nervous I was going to be terrible at this!)

1. We started with slightly curled hair. Especially if you have fine hair like me, you want to give it a little added texture for the hair pins and bobby pins. IE: the curls do not need to be perfect or pretty, so you can do this in under 5 minutes.

2. Create a Base: The most important thing we learned is you only really need a handful of pins to create a tousled look that will stay all night.  The base is created by sectioning your hair into sections. Take the back section and roll it up in your hand and secure with two long pins, then play with the sides to soften the look. The best tip we received is to only use pins to anchor your hair down. Hair pins (the ones that are open v shapes) should be used the rest of the time to create a more tousled, undone look.

3. Have fun: Playing around with the front pieces is key to creating a look that you love, but don’t pin down until you are done playing or else you will have to start from the beginning!

I cannot wait to take another course, especially the “beautiful blow-dry” class! I along with the other Dallas bloggers at the course loved our experience so much that we have teamed up with FORM Hair Education to give away one seat in the class of your choice! FORM Hair Education is currently only available in Dallas, but be sure to check out their website for more information, www.formhaireducation.com.

FEELING FESTIVE

I am definitely feeling festive this week, especially since our Christmas Party is tonight.  I love mixing and mingling and enjoying a few (or a few too many) glasses of bubbly.  Festive dresses are always an important wardrobe staple to have during this time of year.  Deciding what to wear to a work party can be tough. I always find a shift dress with a little something special is the perfect go-to when it comes to these types of events. Buffalo check is always a great way to add a little holiday cheer to any outfit. I wore this Equipment dress to a holiday party last week and it would make the perfect dress for a dressy-casual work event. Here are a few more of my favorite party dresses from Nordstrom.
