DAY ONE AT THE FOUR SEASONS MAUI

I have been impatiently waiting to share these pictures from our trip to Maui earlier this year.  Today, I’m finally sharing all about our first day on the island and the most memorable anniversary trip at the Four Seasons Maui. Thanks to my one of my oldest childhood friends for deciding to get married in beautiful Maui, we decided to tack on a few extra days to celebrate our anniversary. (Sorry in advance for the picture overload!)

TRAVEL DAY

After a 9+ hour travel day–we flew Virgin from LA and I have to say, it was a great experience, we arrived to the Kahului Airport.  We had the loveliest driver who gave us a little island history during our 20 minute drive to the resort. He was an island native and told us stories about growing up surfing the North Shore. It was such a warm welcome to the beautiful island.  When we arrived at the Four Seasons Maui resort, we were greeted with beautiful leis, fresh ginger lemonade and cool towels.  The best part of time difference in Hawaii was we had the afternoon to enjoy the beach after our long travel day.

The rooms at the Four Seasons were renovated in December 2016, and they did not miss a beat! The modern, clean design was so inviting. One of my favorite details was the beautiful art around the space, oh and the amazing balcony where I enjoyed my morning coffee and watched the sunrise every morning.  A bottle of champagne and chocolate fondue was waiting for us when we arrived to our room.  The staff really knew how to make us feel right at home.

After we settled in and made a quick change into our swimsuits, we met the Executive Chef, Craig Dryhurst to discuss our dinner for the following night.  To celebrate our anniversary, the Four Seasons created an once-in-a-lifetime experience called the Ultimate Dinner.  We chatted about our love for food and wine, while the chef jotted down notes about our likes and dislikes.  He then took his notes to create the most incredible menu and drink pairing for the following night. More on this tomorrow.

TAKE ME TO THE BEACH

After we met with the Chef, we headed down the steps to the beach. The Four Seasons’ beach is located on the southwest coast and the water is definitely more calm on this side of the island, which makes it great for beginner surfing, swimming and snorkeling.  We found a spot under an umbrella, enjoyed a few cocktails and watched the paddle boarders, surfers and spotted a few humpback whales in the distance.

We opted for major relaxation, but there are so many beach activities available to the guests of the hotel.

TO THE POOL

After spending a few hours at the beach we decided to head up to the Serenity Pool (or adult pool) to continue our relaxing day and a little bite to eat.  We enjoyed a few more drinks up at the swim up bar and then took in the view from the infinity edge pool. It really doesn’t get much better than this!

OFF TO DINNER

Since we knew we would be tired from the long travel day, we opted for a casual dinner at Spago (if you visit, you must order the Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke Cones–I’m still dreaming about it!). Be sure to reserve a table outside with a view of the water to take in the beautiful sunset.  It was honestly the perfect ending to an incredible day one in Maui.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for Day 2 of our Maui adventure.
