It’s finally business as usual around here.

We have almost made it through the first month of the year and I have one word to explain it: WHIRLWIND. Between moving, a few trips and trying to stay on top of my goals for the year, I will be welcoming February with open arms.

Minus a few hiccups here and there, most of my resolutions are still in tact.  I have been working out 5 times a week, eating healthy (minus a cheeseburger or two) and starting each day on a positive note. I talked about it here, but one of my goals this year is to get dressed every day (and by dressed, I mean getting out of my lulu pants from my morning workout). Keeping my style easy is the key to my success.  Think: jeans, a plain tee and a third piece to finish the look.  Have you ever heard about the third piece rule? My girlfriend worked at J.Crew during college. When she was working the floor, she was always advised to add a third piece to her outfit.  I am talking a belt, cardigan, jacket or scarf to add to her look.  Whatever she chose, she instantly looked so put together. Since then, I have taken their advice and followed the third piece rule.  It adds an unexpected element to an ordinary outfit.  Today,  my third piece was my new blazer.  Whether you work from home, like I do, or in a corporate environment, owning a blazer is a must-have wardrobe staple in any girls closet. To keep the look casual and cool, pair your black jacket with boyfriend jeans and a simple tee or throw it on over a mini dress with over the knee boots. If you work in the corporate world, I would pair it with a patterned pencil skirt and a great pair of pumps.

What is your go-to third piece?
