Thankful In Austin

This past week I was in Austin, TX spending time with family and realizing how thankful I am to have such wonderful people surrounding and supporting me.  Our week started out at the S Ranch, the family ranch just a few miles outside of Austin, and it never disappoints.  Lots of great wine and food, and of course hunting for the boys. There were lots of first experiences this year, new girlfriends and boyfriends ventured out to Austin for the weekend, Patrick’s first deer and my attempt at going hunting- well, sitting in the blind watching for hours on end.  Let’s just say, I don’t know when the next time I will go sit in a small room outside with no cell reception and no talking allowed..haha.

The Thanksgiving meal is always the best in Texas, everything is fresh and homemade including turkey in can, chicken-fried venison, and famous Bloody Mary’s by Uncle Greg. Naps and football filled our day on Thursday, Friday we ventured out to the Texas vineyards and tasted great wines, Saturday we went shopping at the Domain and Sunday we took a trip down South Congress Street.  All in all, Thanksgiving was full of things to be thankful for this year.

Drawing Time

Yesterday Aiden, my little brother, and I took some time to draw.  He is a very artistic 8 year old boy and I was very impressed with his drawings of Mickey Mouse and everything else.  He wanted to post some of our work on the blog today, and I thought it would be fun to showcase some of his work.  My drawings were inspired by Inslee, the fabulous fashion illustator.  You can find her amazing work here and she even does personalized commissions.  Hope you like our “pieces of art”.

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to the most wonderful father, best friend, man I have ever known.  He has taught me how to be strong, passionate, and to follow my dreams.  I only hope that I can be as wonderful of a parent as he is to us.  He will always put his children first and I admire him for that.  I am so grateful to have received his passion for creativity and art.  I hope all of you are as lucky as I am to have such a wonderful father.

Dad Always Knows Best

Father’s Day is around the corner and I am not proud to say that I am a procrastinator when it comes to finding my daddio the perfect gift.  I usually end up painting something, making a photo book from Pinehole Press, or giving him a gift card to Barnes and Noble to pick out a new book to add to his collection.  This year I decided to jump outside the box and get him something he would never ask for or expect.  Here are a few of my front runners and would be perfect gifts for any husband or dad.

1. Malin + Goetz Rum Soap

2. Field Notes from Letterbox Company

3. Jack Spade Laptop Briefcase

4. Kiehls Cross Terrain All-In-One Wash

5. Mougin and Piquard Watch

6. Alden Shoe Tree

7. Jack Spade “Dad” Money Clip

8. Baldwin Demin KC Cap

Brother Love

Today is National Sibling’s Day and I have to brag a little. I think I have the cutest, most wonderful brother around.  He always knows how to make me laugh with a quick joke or dance and has such a sensitive soul for only being seven years old (going on 25).  He means the world to me and I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Little Letters

One of my favorite gifts I have ever recieved was my Lena Wald initial necklace.  Every girl in our family recieves one when they turn 16 years old. I haven’t taken mine off ever since I lost and replaced it a few years ago.  They are very dainty so you can wear them with anything.  They also have cute shapes like a peace sign (Michelle Obama was spotting sporting one). Also, Gwenyth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz are big supporters of the LA designer.
