OUTFIT DETAILS: BLACK & WHITE

Balwin The L in Murdered Out (denim version here) / Elizabeth and James White Tee / J Crew Collection Denim Jacket (on sale!) / Tory Burch Oversized Clutch / Paul Smith Sunglasses c/o / Zara Heels / Lulu Goldtone Drift Necklace / J Crew Bracelets (old)

So remember when I said I like the basics, well this is pretty much my go- to outfit as of late. Obviously, I like to switch up the tee and denim, but add some heels and a fun necklace and this outfit can transition from day to night.

There is something about black denim that makes an outfit feel complete for night-time wear. Even for a casual dinner, I love to throw on either this pair or my J Crew minnie pant, especially if I want to wear a t- shirt and let’s be honest, that is pretty much all of the time. Or for a Fall night out on the town add a silk blouse or fun peplum to dress it up a bit. In the Fall months when it starts to get pretty chilly at night, I always bring along my trusty denim jacket. I think it is the perfect piece in your closet to dress down any look.

With summer “offically” coming to a close this long weekend, means September is right around the corner.  And in the fashion world that means all of the September Issues are out and NYFW is approaching faster than we know it.  There is nothing better than the street style in front of Lincoln Center and the oh so chic ladies rocking some amazing looks. I will be on the lookout for Leandra, TTH, and of course Anna Wintour.

OUTFIT DETAILS: THE JACKET

Joie Polka Dot Dress (on sale!) / Pins and Needles Leather Jacket / DIY Crystal Spike necklace (I like this one too!) / Tory Burch Oversized Clutch (bag version) / BCBG booties last season (similar here) / J Crew pave ball bangle / Laura Mercier Haute Red (lipstick)

Remember yesterday when I said I would show you my leather (pleather) jacket?  Well, here it is in all of its not-so-super-soft glory. To be honest, I love the cut but the idea of leather sticking to you no matter how cold/warm it is outside is just not that appealing to me.  I am trying to get used to the weather change here in Ohio and am constantly reaching for a jacket. The other night we decided to go out to dinner so I threw on my favorite Joie dress but I knew I was going to need a jacket later in the night.  As much as I am not the biggest fan of the texture, this jacket gave this super girly dress the perfect edge it needed (or at least I tried).

Since this is one of the first times you are seeing me in a style post, I thought I would give a little background on my personal style.  It is hard to classify because it has changed so much in the last couple years but I would say my eye tends to love the classics (think The Row, Prada, etc.- if you had all of the money in the world) Lately, instead of shopping at F21 and HM for trendy pieces that will only get a few wears and then go into the donation pile, I have been trying to buy investment pieces that will stand the test of time.  Don’t get me wrong, I definitely still go to F21 and have an armful for the dressing room, but I really have been trying to buy 1 or 2 classic pieces every couple months, rather than spending the same amount on things I know are not going to last.  Next on my list: A Real Leather Jacket

TAKE NOTE: BALDWIN DENIM

Can we talk about how good this is?  Have you heard of Baldwin yet? If not, you most likely will soon because this Kansas City based company is making major headway in the fashion world. Personally, they are doing everything the right way. You can find their jeans on Shopbop or if you live in Kansas City, they are opening up a store on the Plaza next month! A few months ago I talked about my favorite boyfriend jeans and since then I have purchased these, these, and these. They are seriously my favorite. Today they released their Fall collection and my wallet is going to be in some serious trouble.  I love love the light wash denim, and am definitely going to need a pair of the Andi in Camo.

STYLE DETAILS

After flipping through the pages of all of my September issues, I have decided this Fall is all about the black leather jacket.  It is the perfect transition piece from the end of Summer to Fall to Winter and will give you the perfect amount of edge.  I have been wanting a “good” one for a few years now but I have been waiting until I find the perfect one for me.  It has to be a classic style with supersoft leather, that I know will not go out of style by next season.  Last year I found one at Urban Outfitters that was the perfect cut, but not so perfect material (stay tuned for tomorrow’s post to see it in real life). I thought I always wanted a tan leather, but this year is all about the classic black. So I am going to save my pennies and purchase on of these pretty ones from above.

THAT GIRL

Happy Monday! I am feeling super refreshed this morning after a very lazy weekend, hence the lack to “Lately” pictures.  To be really honest (like I always try to do on this blog), the pictures would have been of me sleeping on the couch, cleaning the kitchen, and watching a marathon of movies- not exactly a picture worthy weekend. We did take a spontaneous trip to Columbus yesterday afternoon for a few hours. We walked around a cute little area called Short North, had a beer at the Pint House, and reminisced as we drove through Greek row at OSU.  I cannot believe it has already been four years since I have been out of school.  Seriously a little crazy to think about…

During my super lazy weekend escapades, I spent lots of time on Pinterest (naturally) and kept coming across pictures of Taylor Tomasi Hill. Serious girl crush on her style, and that red hair. She has the entire package and she makes it look so effortless.  Although my style tends to be a little more classic than the red- headed bombshell, she makes me want to push the limit on my choices.  The master of pattern mixing, and that shocking red lipstick, I will definitely be taking notes from her this Fall.  Who are your style icons?

STYLE DETAILS

I am not sure what happened- I normally am wishing for summer to last forever (an Arizona girl at heart), but I am ready for Fall.  Maybe it is because I am obsessed with these booties, like all of them.  Shopbop has the best selection when it comes to shoes, from affordable brands to major investment pieces- it is where I do most of my shopping when it comes to shoes.  Honestly, I like to shop in the stores when it comes to clothes (I like to touch and feel the material), but for shoes, online is the way to go.  Since I am pretty short, I love the look of booties- I try to wear black denim with black booties to elongate my legs and of course, they have to be the perfect height so I do not look shorter than I am.

TRAVEL DETAILS

And we are off again, this time just for a quick 48 hour trip to St. Louis to celebrate my papa’s 90th birthday (Seriously, you could never guess his age!) In order to try and pack in a small carry on, I decided to make a list of what I actually needed for each day we will be there.  I always wear comfy jeans and a light sweater on the plane, because I am always freezing on flights.  Saturday we will be wandering around town and maybe soaking up some sun at the pool and then getting all dolled up for a celebratory dinner. In a blink of an eye the weekend will be over and we will pack back up and head out early on Sunday.  I would love to hear if you have any great secrets to packing light?  I always try but then I end up throwing all of my favorite things into my suitcase and only wearing 2 outfits! (Seriously, I need help people!).

Packing List
