My Better Half

Isn’t it funny how two people together is better than one sometimes?  In this case may be true in love, work, or friendship but sometimes two people with opposite personalities just work.  Maybe that’s the case with Patrick and I, he’s 6’2″ and has great hand eye coordination with a killer voice, and I’m 5’2″, afraid of flying objects (mostly kickballs- it’s a long story) and tone deaf.  Anyways… Designer and blogger Amanda Jane Jones started this series, My Better Half, where she shares a little story with illustrated icons about design/ blogger couples and some interesting facts about them as individuals. It just goes to show that sometimes opposites do attract and the pieces that you find are missing in yourself are sometimes found in your better half.  Go check out the entire series here, you will love it!

Oh not to mention, the darling Bri Emery was one of the models in the series. She makes me want to be a blonde!

Dream Big

Note: This post is a little out of the ordinary.

During my time at home I had a lot of time to reflect, relax and realize how lucky I have been these last twenty-three years.  This could have something to do with my birthday being right around the corner or maybe finally have a moment to collect my thoughts after a very busy July.  Sometimes I am guilty of taking moments for granted. When I talk about moments, I mean just being present. Lately, I have been caught up in the little things and forget about the big picture.  Granted, I am only 23 (well at least for 2 more days) and I have so much to learn and time to grow but sometimes I feel so much older.  I find myself planning what is going to happen in the future (near and far) and lose sight of all of the wonderful things that are happening right now, in this very moment.  I am sure this is something many people struggle with but my new goal for myself is to focus on the present and the special moments that are happening all around me and the future will work itself out along the way.  But I will never forget to dream big. The goals I have for myself sometimes feel so unattainable, until they happen.

It is funny to think that one of my goals two years ago was to start a blog, so I could learn and practice using Photoshop, InDesign and Illustator and through time it has become so much more than I have ever dreamed or imagined.  This blog has opened up opportunities I never thought existed. I am so fortunate to have made such wonderful connections and have met amazing people, I can honestly call friends.  As my blogging journey continues, I want to say thank you for the bottom of my heart to all of you for continuing to read, look, and get inspired by my view of life’s little details.  If it was not for all you, I think I may have stopped following some of my dreams a long time ago.

Drawing Time

Yesterday Aiden, my little brother, and I took some time to draw.  He is a very artistic 8 year old boy and I was very impressed with his drawings of Mickey Mouse and everything else.  He wanted to post some of our work on the blog today, and I thought it would be fun to showcase some of his work.  My drawings were inspired by Inslee, the fabulous fashion illustator.  You can find her amazing work here and she even does personalized commissions.  Hope you like our “pieces of art”.

Weekend Fun

Happy Happy Friday!  I thankfully had a lovely day off today so my weekend started early.  It included a quick run at the gym and some much need sun bathing by the pool with Patrick.  We have a fun filled weekend that involves the farmer’s market, pool side, and good barbecue and friends.

Hump Day

Is it only Wednesday? This week has been a little crazy to say the least. I have been working long nights, and early mornings and I am in desperate need of some caffeine this Wednesday morning.  I just keep reminding myself that I am so lucky to have such a wonderful job and work with incredible people I can call my friends.

Michelle from Second Street East has a new series on her blog to get over that Wednesday hump with a Happy Hour that is sure to keep you going for the rest of the week.

What do you do to get over that Wednesday hump? Coffee, Happy Hour with friends, or relax on the couch?

Happy Monday

Wow! This weekend was a whirlwind and I wasn’t quite ready for Monday morning.  I ended up working most of the weekend but enjoyed some fun times with good friends.  We traveled down to the City Market Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning and picked up a few goodies that included fresh bread from Bloom Bakery and a mix of herbs to plant in our sunroom. For Cinco de Mayo, my roomie made some fabulous Sangria and nachos.  Overall it was a fabulous weekend that went by way to quick.

I picked up this cute notebook at Target and some bright red lipstick from Laura Mercier

Pretty Papers

I am a big fan of design done well. I think Megan, the owner and creator MaeMae Paperie, has done an amazing job.  MaeMae Paperie (meaning little sister) is a stationary and paper goods company and their blog is pretty amazing.  I love her attention to the little details, especially the custom stamps and her handwritten calligraphy.  I really love this Ollie Address Stamp– maybe for my birthday??

Crazy for Gingham

Don’t you just love this litte checked pattern.  It reminds most of picnics in the park with red and white gingham tablecloths but done correctly it turns into chic pattern that pairs well with interiors, fashion and food.  I have four J Crew gingham shirts in my closet and I have have been tempted to buy more.  Blair Eadie from Atlantic-Pacific might have an addiction similar to mine.  That closet pic is of her collection and she always does such a great job styling this cute pattern.  This preppy pattern goes with just about anything

Or So I Keep Telling Myself

This week is full of excitement.  As I approach possibly my biggest day of the year at work (the Home Opener) I am filled with excitement, nerves, joy, and anxiety all at the same time.  I keep reminding myself during these late work nights that “the best is yet to come” (or I really hope!)
