TIPS TO GET OUT OF A CREATIVE RUT

We’ve all been there, whether it’s your job, closet, or just life in general; we all get into creative ruts. For me, my rut started a few weeks ago. I think it’s the combination of in-between seasons and the fact I have been a slave to my desk. Thankfully, I noticed the path I was going down this weekend and I tried a few things to get my creative juices flowing.

LITTLE DETAILS

It was one of those weekends that are so good for your soul. Late night convos, a little too much rosé and some extra love in the air.

Sunshine does that to me. It happened to be the most gorgeous weekend in Dallas and what started as a low key, no plans weekend turned into some of my favorite days we’ve had in a long time. Don’t you love when that happens? The weekend started with dinner at one of my favorite Italian spots on Friday night, a barre class (I am rekindling my love for ballet) on Saturday morning followed by an extra long walk with the pups and hubs. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary or extra special, but it was just us and I loved every minute. Since it was my ideal temperature (80 and sunny, yes please!), we decided to spend the rest of the day outside sipping rosé until the sun went down. I live for weekends like this.

BACHELORETTE PARTY IDEAS WITH MINTED

Minted Bachelorette Invitations

I still cannot believe this year marks two years of marriage. It still feels like yesterday I was planning all those little details for our April wedding (along with my amazing wedding planner, Jen).  From the moment we got engaged, there was a sense of urgency to get everything accomplished all at once.  If I could have given myself one bit of advice, it would be to take your time and enjoy the process, be decisive and go with your gut!

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY + TRENCH COAT WEATHER

We have been experiencing some major rainy/gloomy weather in Dallas this week and my mood has taken a major hit. I don’t know if anyone feels this way, but January has been one super long month and I am ready for it to be over.  Not that I want to wish away the days, but I think I always put too much pressure on myself to be perfect and to think I can meet all my goals in just the first 4 weeks of the year.  This month is always a reset, a fresh start but I seem to add too much to my plate and it never ends well.  For the next two weeks, I decided to throw my yearly goals aside and try to focus on what is happening in this moment.

Today, I woke up with a smile on my face and the sun starting to shine through our window. It’s going to be a great Friday!

DOING THINGS

Outdoor Voices

One of my favorite things about going home to Arizona is spending time outdoors (and, of course, quality time with my parents, little brother, and best friends).  Whether we are hiking at Brown’s Ranch, Pinnacle Peak, or Camelback mountain, or even just playing wiffle ball in the front yard; we are constantly on the move.  This year, the weather wasn’t the best on Christmas Eve day, so we opted out of our annual family hike. Thankfully the sun came out the day after Christmas, so we decided to burn off all those Christmas cookies with a walk in the wash that backs up to my family’s house. It was the perfect ending to a great holiday weekend.

BEST OF 2016

Does anyone else feel like you blinked and 2016 has come and gone? I know for many (me included), this was a year filled with some extreme highs and a few low, lows. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. We started our year in the mountains and ended the year on the beach. These bookend trips really rounded out my love for this year. Be sure to scroll for a few of my favorite highlights from this year.

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

loveyoufriday-0164

This week has been filled with lots of high highs and a few lows and for all of you that need it this week, I am sending you a little extra love.

This week I tried Tracy Anderson with Amy and Mackenzie (I am still sore 3 days later!), watched the election results with friends, spent time with my mother-in law, and tried a new restaurant in town that may be a new favorite. This weekend we will be running lots of errands to get ready for our first trip to the mountains next week (even if there is no snow yet), finishing my gift guide and shooting a few special holiday projects. This is the first week the weather has been under 80 in Dallas, so I might even try to convince Patrick to make a fire. :)

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

Holy moly people, this week has been a doozy! Between my job, social engagements, watching the World Series (Go Cubs!), and creating some of my holiday content, the last 5 days have been chocked-full of craziness.  This weekend I am going to try and finish my 4th annual Holiday Gift Guide Magazine and try a few new recipes.
