I don’t know if I am jumping the gun but I think hope we are past “sweater weather” and saying so long winter in Dallas (sorry Midwest friends!).  The last few weeks we have been enjoying 60s and 70s. I have to say I have zero FOMO for everyone in New York right now thanks to the amazing weather this past weekend. Before the weather really shifts to Spring here in the South, I had to share this outfit.  Some form of this outfit has been my go-to during the last few months.  If you live in Dallas you know that layering is your friend when it comes to these transition months.  The mornings can be chilly. You leave the house with a coat in tow and by noon you are wanting to be wearing a tank top and shorts. In order to not have to make a quick change mid-day, I have been layering a sweater over a blouse so when the afternoon hits, I can pull off the sweater and tie it around my shoulders.  What is your go-to weekday outfit?

“She loved the ocean because every time the waves left the shore, they always came back.”-unknown

As I laid in the sand with the waves crashing at my feet, a slew of memories rushed in. I don’t know if it was the sounds of the water or the sun shining down on my skin but I felt at peace. My anxiety washed away with each passing wave and I allowed my mind to wander. So many thoughts came to the surface. Thoughts about my goals, my relationship and where I see my life in the next 10 years. For the first time in a while, I allowed my mind to wander to creative places and found new inspiration. I know it is not just me, but I get so caught up in my daily routine that I don’t allow myself to fully let go. So as I sat there in the sand watching each wave leave the shore, I let those little things go, and made room in my life for something new.

We had the best day on Saint-Jean beach in St. Barth’s. Stay tuned for later this week, I will be sharing a guide to 5 hours on the island. Everyone had to drag me back onto the boat. I could have stayed on that island forever. I wore my new Marysia bikini the entire day with a high waisted maxi skirt and sandals. To say I am obsessed with my new suit would be an understatement.  I have been lusting over Marysia’s designs for over 2 years now and I finally decided this girls trip was the perfect time to pick it up. I contemplated on getting this one piece, but Mackenzie talked me into the bikini with a quote from her Grandy- “You have your entire life to wear a one-piece, wear a bikini while you can.” She really is a genius.

PalmBeach_6PalmBeach_13Something new is coming to A Dash of Details.  Many of you have been asking about all of our frequent travels, so I decided to bring back my Travel Details series. I will feature our favorite places we have been, where to stay, eat and shop.

I decided to kick off the new series with our recent trip to West Palm Beach.  Patrick surprised me with a trip for my 27th birthday.  I couldn’t believe he kept the surprise until we arrived at security in Dallas.  We landed in West Palm Beach in the afternoon and headed straight to the beach. Here are a few of our favorite places.

Where to Stay:

Four Seasons Palm Beach

The Breakers Palm Beach Hotel

The Colony Palm Beach

Where to Eat:

AB&D Kitchen at the Four Seasons:  Casual outdoor menu overlooking the water. If you like sushi, you must try the Tuna Tostada. Just trust me!

Cafe Via Flora: This little café is hidden behind Worth Avenue inside one of the eight vias (or alleys). The italian style cafe has amazing sandwiches and salads, and of course no meal is complete without parmesan truffle fries. Calories don’t count when your on vacation, right?

Palm Beach Grill: Known as one of the hot spots on the island, this Hillstone restaurant did not disappoint and either did the people watching.  Bring your appetite, the portions are large.

Ta-boo: This classic Palm Springs spot is an iconic spot on the famous Worth Avenue shopping district! We popped in after shopping for a drink and happy hour bites.  Old school cocktails and black and white stripe decor scream Palm Beach style.  We loved the Fried Green tomatoes and pimento cheese.

Būccan: If you are going to make reservations at one restaurant, this one is a must! This was the most recommended restaurant by everyone we met. We decided to try the popular spot for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint.  Known for its small plate menu, this restaurant takes you on an exquisite food journey.

HMF: Situated inside the historic Breakers Hotel and named after the famous Henry Morrison Flagler this bar/restaurant has you traveling back in time to the golden era of Palm Beach.  Get ready to be overwhelmed by the amazing wine wall and list.

Seafood Bar: We headed into the Seafood Bar for on last meal before heading back home. Sit at the bar and watch the fish swim by under your delicious bacon infused Bloody Mary.

What to Do:

Take a beach cruiser down Ocean Avenue. Stop to take in the amazing homes situated right on the water.  Also, if you are staying downtown, ride your bike by the Flagler Museum (it is worth the trip!).

Shop on Worth Avenue (or window shop): This famous shopping area is filled with the most incredible selection of designer brands.

Relax on the beach with a cocktail in your hand.  I mean, what else could be better than that!

If this day could not get any better, it just did! Today is the start of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (insert extra smiley emoji here).  This sale is my favorite time of the year to stock up on great investment pieces like handbags, beauty must-haves, dainty gold jewelry and classic tops and jeans.

Since I knew the Nordstrom sale was starting; a few weeks ago I took a long look at my closet and realized it was time for a major cleanout. Those outdated college clothes that I kept holding onto and never wearing (some things have been in the back on my closet for 10 years…yikes!) are finally in better hands! It felt so good to purge and start fresh.  For the last 2-3 years I have really focused on investing in classic colors and styles, and now that my closet is a little slimmer, I was finally able to see the missing items in my closet.  In the next few months I hope to invest in some light summer dresses and skirts, booties for Fall, and a few new denim styles.

The Nordstrom sale can be a little overwhelming. My advice is to stay focused on your actual needs rather than making a bunch of impulse buys you will later regret. I made a list of what I need and then only searched for those specific items.  It kept me on task and my wallet (fairly) happy.

If you are a card holder, you can shop early until July 16th. If not, you can scope out your must have items and hope they are still there in 8 short days :) Good luck and happy shopping!

Wednesdays are normally my jam. Thanks to Patrick’s weekly 6am flight to Denver (talk about brownie points for my airport services) I can typically work out, finish my blog post, and eat breakfast all before 7am. Today, was a different story. Instead of following my favorite day routine, I pulled the covers back over my head and didn’t set my alarm.  Are you wondering why I am telling you this?

Today, I needed a little pick me up.  So, here is a little food for thought, because life is too short to have bad days.
