Almost everything in life is just a little better when broken-in.
This past weekend marked one year of living in Dallas and it’s starting to finally feel like home. I have my go-to places, my friends and now a workout routine that I am trying to stick with. With life being a little hectic lately, it is nice to feel a little “broken-in”.
I was thinking back to where I was a year ago today and thinking about how much has changed and yet, how much has stayed the same. I had just started my new job, moved into our house , and did not know very many people. Today I am still with the same job, live in the same house but now I have friends that I can count on for just about anything. For me, friends are what make everything feel a little bit more broken-in.
January was extremely busy for both Patrick and I. Great things are happening so we are both not complaining. He has been traveling more for work and I have been using most of my free time to focus on the blog. That being said, we always find one night to go out, keep our phones out of sight and just focus on each other. We have a few go-to spots in Dallas that we make it to on the regular.
The Porch: Our weekday, weekend, pretty much any day of the week go-to date night restaurant. If you can’t tell, we just love this place. When it is nice, we love the casual patio and share the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Cobb. You will die and go to heaven when you try this.
Deep Sushi: A total hole in the wall in Deep Ellum. We love the dark ambiance and hustle of the sushi bar. The secret: the amazing off menu rolls that make your mouth water.
Toulouse: French Bistro style restaurant with great outdoor seating on the edge of the Katy Trail. We love to cuddle up at a small two person table, share cheese plates galore, wine and watch the people running by. Also try the gnocchi, its heavenly.
Knife: Maybe it is because we spent a special birthday/anniversary of our engagement here, but it is sure one of our favorite steak houses in Dallas. We love the low-key vibe of the restaurant inside The Highlands Hotel (used to be the Kimpton Palomar). Sit by the bar for a drink before, the swanky decor will make you want to cozy up.
Trinity Groves: A collection of 6 different restaurants with a perfect view of downtown. Our current favorite is LUCK for beer and a sandwich. You will not be disappointed.
If you can’t tell we love to keep it casual, but every once and a while it’s fun to get dressed up for no good reason. I rarely wear a skirt anymore (just because the nature of my job and casual lifestyle), so when Patrick suggested date night this weekend I jumped at the opportunity to throw on this flirty skirt and leather jacket combo.
3 Years! I cannot believe ADOD is three years old today! As a special little present to all of you, I am so excited to share the new A Dash of Details. I really did loved my old site, but I knew it was time for a facelift and make the move to WordPress. After 6 months, lots of help from a good friend and a few sleepless nights last week, I want to welcome you to the new A Dash of Details. The new site is much easier to navigate. You can now find all of my social links (and subscribe) at the top right of your screen, these will stay with you when you scroll down the page. Also, be sure to check out the new menu bar at the top. I have updated the ABOUT ME section and now you can search by category, just scroll over CATEGORIES on the bar to find what you are looking for. If you want something more specific, there is a search bar for easy use! Also, you don’t want to miss the SHOP, now you can find all of my favorites in just a click of a button. Since I made the switch from Squarespace to WordPress, make sure to bookmark my page and also re-follow me on Bloglovin’ to make sure ADOD shows up in your reader every morning.
In honor of the new ADOD, I thought it was only fitting to pull out the sequins. The holidays are the perfect excuse too add some sparkle!
