“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars”- Les Brown

Dreams and goals are something everyone has or aspires to have, but why does fear always seem to get in the way.  When the risk is almost greater than the reward, I always seem to play it on the safe side.  I make excuses to myself, find the easy way out or just tell myself it will never happen.  Today is the day this is all going to change.

At lunch yesterday, my friend Katie introduced me to this book that has really affected her life. The book is about your life story.  After we left, I sat in the car and asked myself the question, “do I like my story?” My first response was of course, I really love my life. I love all of the people in my life, but is my story really something worth telling? Have I made an impact on other people? Have I taken risks, overcome obstacles, or am I just living the life I am supposed to live.  I tend to think that I live an interesting life, but routine can get in the way of a great life story. What’s your story this week?

Just a little food for thought this Friday! I hope all you lovies have a wonderful weekend, maybe even a little St. Patty’s day celebration. I know I will be drinking green mimosa and digging in the back of my closet for something green so I don’t get pinched. :)

TODAY we celebrate with champagne, of course!

Not only is it Friday and I am excited to have a productive weekend full of checking things off my wedding to-do list. This week was also extremely good to me. For all of you new to ADOD, you can find out a little more about me here and thanks again for stoping by.

I have always been proud of the town I grew up in; this week the spotlight has been on sunny Arizona. All of my friends and family are enjoying a little golf and football (and lots of added traffic) this weekend. While, I wish I could be there, this is my second weekend at home in a row (which is a rarity these days) and I really could not be happier.  We will probably be hopping over to our favorite dinner spot for date night, if the weather is nice, enjoy a few drinks at The Rustic, and to top it off we will be celebrating a good friends birthday. Pretty much sums up my perfect weekend.

To make your weekend even sweeter, Rocksbox is giving all ADOD readers a month free subscription. Just use the code: ALIXOXO until tomorrow! If you have never heard of Rockbox, it is pretty much my new obsession.  How it works: sign up and fill out the style survey.  Once you complete the survey, you can add items to your wish list (I am a huge fan of Loren Hope and Gorjana). Rocksbox will then send you a package with three items for you to use as long as you want. Once you are finished, you can either buy the piece at a discounted price (I mean a major discount) or send them back in to receive another box full of jewels. Isn’t that genius? I think yes!

“If there was ever a time to do it , to make a different in your life, to embark on something worth doing, it is not. Not for any grand cause, necessarily, but for something that tugs at your heart, something that’s your aspiration, something that’s your dream. You owe it to yourself to make your days here count. Have Fun. Dig Deep. Stretch your mind. Be determined and Dream Big.” – Anonymous

First off, I wanted to say THANK YOU for all the kind words, emails and texts about yesterdays post. Y’all sure know how to make a girl feel special.  I had such extreme anticipation for the announcement, not only because I was excited to start sharing our wedding more on the blog (since really this space is just an extension of my real life), but because I felt like it was a milestone in a long journey. I have been blogging for 5 years and yesterday was one of those moments that reminded myself why I love this space so much.

I have always had a flaw, we all have them, and sometimes they are there for a reason I may just not understand yet.  I find myself discounting small successes in my life, not necessarily putting myself down but at the same time, not completely enjoying the reward from my hard work.  I know most people are guilty of something like this, but today is the day I stop crushing my own dreams and just figure out a way to make them happen.  I hope you follow along for the ride.

On a side (lighter) note, did you know Intermix has an exclusive line where they work with some amazing designers to create pieces just for their stores? Maybe I have been living under a rock but this Brochu Walker X Intermix sweater dress has been in constant rotation in my closet. I have been wearing it non-stop with my New Balances during the day. I was browsing the site and found this tailored white vest and these FRAME exclusive boyfriend jeans that I need want to add to my closet.

This Dallas weather is throwing me for quite the loop. Last week it was in the 80’s and today the 30’s. Being this is our first winter in Texas, I have been going through my closet trying to make some room for pieces I know will be in constant rotation throughout these mild (or so I thought) winter months.  One of my favorite trends, as of late, is the oversized vest-coat.  I picked up this Theory vest a few weeks ago and have since become obsessed. I have been wearing it everywhere this week; to the grocery store, out to lunch, and even on date night. Pretty much the perfect thing to throw on over any outfit.

I also might be late to the game, but I just recently found a new love for J.Crew denim.  Talk about fitting like a glove, these black jeans are a new favorite of mine. They have the perfect amount of stretch, but don’t give you saggy knees (I hope you know what I am talking about) by the end of the day.  The best part is everything is 25% off right now, so it’s even a better reason to buy them in every color.

* I know it is a little early to be talking about the Holidays but I just can’t wait. Stay tuned on Monday for my best ever Gift Guide. I have been working day and night to find the best items to buy this holiday season!

Finding the perfect shirt can be a difficult task.

For me, especially since I am on the petite side, I always struggle with finding that perfect fitting button down top. That is until I was introduced to Double R Brand.  A local Dallas company that specializes in custom fit clothes made easy and at an affordable price.  Before I started working from home, I pretty much wore a different shirt and skirt combo everyday to work.  Now that I wear shirts as a more casual look, I have been on the lookout for the perfect boyfriend shirt. Honestly until now, I have never found one that fits me just right.  They are either too wide, too long, or just too big in general.  Thankfully, Double R Brand created a boyfriend shirt custom for me.

It is as easy as 1-2-3 too! First you pick out your style- Tailored and fitted, Boyfriend relaxed, Shirt Dress, or Limited edition (which is currently this awesome shell).  Then you pick your fabric, which was my most favorite task.  They have 12 different fabric types in more colors and patterns than you could ever imagine.  Then you take your measurements, and click purchase! It is really that easy.

For me, there is nothing like a warm, sunny day.

My mood is completely affected by the weather, maybe it has something to do with growing up in a state where I was completely spoiled by Mother Nature.  As I get older, the more conscious I am about my skin.  I will be honest, never in a million years did I think I would say that. I am fortunate to have olive skin and spent most of my childhood outside in the sun. What I never realized is how it would affect me today.  I can’t reverse what I did to my skin back then, but I definitely can make a better effort to protect it now and hopefully save it from those sun spots and wrinkles later in life.

Wondering why I am bringing up skincare? Well, this amazing dress is actually made with UPF 50 (Yep, you heard me right, it contains ultraviolet protection factor). When I found out about Mott 50, a brand of stylish sun protective clothing, I knew I needed to learn more about the company.  I knew sun protective clothing existed, but I always thought they were just made for the beach, like rash guards and ugly board shorts. So, when I found cute, high quality clothes that protected my skin and would actually wear, I knew this brand was a winner in my book.

So, while I am hopping around town in my cute striped dress, I can feel good about protecting my skin at the same time. See, it’s a win win.

It has been almost 2 months since we packed up and moved to Dallas and we have been exploring our new city ever since that day.  We have yet to try the same restaurant twice, but there are a few things that are starting to make this city feel like home. Coffee and running outside are two of those things for me.  My favorite coffee shop is right by our house and has the most delicious homemade almond milk latte. Oh, and did I mention it has a perfectly curated selection of some of my favorite brands and coffee table books.  As of late, my morning routine consists of a pit stop for coffee before sitting down to work at my desk. This has made it easier to get up and get dressed in the mornings. One of my favorites recently is an easy white linen tee, white denim and a light weight scarf.  Shawl Smith London has some of my new favorites, like this one and this one.  They are perfect for throwing on over a summer dress or a casual white tee for a pop of color.  Thanks to my friends at Shawl Smith London, they are offering all A Dash of Details readers 25% off your order by using the code: SSL25. Wedding Season is upon us and I could not be more excited.

Being at the age where at every turn someone is either getting engaged or has a wedding on the horizon, I am always on the lookout for that perfect dress. Finding a long dress that doesn’t look like your a bridesmaid, or doesn’t cost you thousand of dollars can be tough, so when I found this silk number at Club Monaco, I knew I had to have it.  Being neutral, this dress can be dressed up for a black tie affair with some heeled sandals and a slick back ponytail or dressed down for something more casual (think: beach wedding).

If you look closely at my wrist you will notice a gold bracelet. At first glance it will appear to be an ordinary gold cuff, but it really it is much more than just your average bracelet. With Mother’s Day, less than a month away, I am always on the lookout for meaningful gifts. I always struggle with finding that “perfect” gift for my mom and normally end up giving her this candle or a picture frame (these are both rated a 10 on the lame gift scale). This year, I decided to start early in my search for the best Mother’s Day gift to date.  If you have never heard of Uncommon Goods, you will now.  It is one of my best kept secrets.  You can find anything from chalkboard cheese board to handmade jewelry.  After a quick search on the site, I found this Astrology bracelet and knew this was the gift.  Since my mom and I do not live in the same place, I thought it would be fun to give her my astrology sign bracelet, and I would get one of hers (okay, it was actually just a great idea so I could get myself I cute, new bracelet too). But, every time she looked down, she would know she had a little piece of me with her.

Joules7 Joules11Joules15 Joules13Joules14Joules18Whenever I am in a wardrobe slump in the middle of a season, I always gravitate to a certain color palate.  In the beginning of the season, I was all about black on black, but these gloomy, short days have me feeling slightly depressed as of late.

Because we cancelled our trip this past weekend, it meant we had an entire weekend that was plan-free.  So on Saturday, we ventured out for a little shopping trip and picked up some tulips to freshen things up at the house. One of my favorite winter outfits is to layer vests under a jacket. Even after living in the Midwest for 8 years, I am still a complete wimp when it comes to the cold.

Growing up in the South, I didn’t know it was actually possible for temperatures to drop below freezing. Yes, I used to think 32 degrees was as cold as it could get.  So when I looked at my phone this morning, -12 degrees was a bit shocking to say the least. I am slowly learning these cold temperatures are not going away anytime soon, hence trips to warmer weather are already on the books for the next few months. While we are headed to warmer temps on the weekends, I am still stuck in the cold during the week. So to make it a little more bearable, I am slowly filling my closet with a few  cold-weather essentials.  Hats, gloves, snow boots, and my long down coat may not be the most fashionable, but they sure are keeping me warm. I have found that layering and keeping it simple are my best friends.

My winter style has consisted of lots of basics. Since I wear jeans or J.Crew Minnie Pants to work almost everyday, I have been layering up my basic tees and sweaters with a fun statement necklace. If its a good day, I will even change out my snow boots for a cute pair of heels.

Stay tuned for tomorrow, someone special is making a guest appearance on the blog with his cold- weather essentials.  :)
