Last Minute Gifts

We have all been there, and the story goes: “It’s 4 days before Christmas and you are still in need of all of the gifts.” This was the first year I decided to plan ahead and not scramble for last minute gifts at the end. I ordered all of my presents online this year and it made everything sooo easy. Like I said on Monday, I still love the holiday hustle, so I ventured to the mall “just because” this past weekend.

For all of you that are like me, you can still order gifts just in time for Christmas!  Shopbop, East Dane and Amazon will deliver presents with 2-day free shipping (with Amazon Prime).

This time of the year can get pretty hectic and with only 10 days left until Christmas, the hustle and bustle in this city is electric.  I have said it before, but I just love this time of year that we decided to start a new tradition. My mom and aunt came to visit Dallas for a weekend full of shopping, wine and a great time! You know the saying, shop until you drop; well that was us.  I think we hit almost every shopping district in this city.  We took a few breaks for bubbly, Diet Cokes and a little fuel to get us through the days.  In addition to checking off everyone on our nice list, we decided it would be fun to find a few things for ourselves along the way.  My mom and aunt found these adorable over the knee boots while I lusted over these classic Stuart Weiztman OTK boots.

Off topic, but do you live in the same town as your parents? Sometimes I wish my parents lived down the street.  It was so fun to have my very special house guests this past week/weekend. If I wasn’t going to see them in less than a week, I think I would be having some major Wednesday Blues (thats a thing, right?).

I love holiday shopping. During this year I get all giddy about the idea of searching for a parking spot (maybe my least favorite part) and heading into the madness.  I actually do most of my Christmas shopping online, but I love roaming through the stores to find those hidden gems! My mom always tells me I have a hidden talent for finding those most desired items- oh and that I have expensive taste (oops).

I always try and look cute while still being comfortable when trekking around the mall.  I have a few key go-to tricks when it comes to my outfit for shopping until I drop.

1. Wear comfortable shoes. And that are also easy to take off.  My Rag and Bone booties are my favorite during the winter because I can walk all day without wanting to rip them off my feet that night.

2. Avoid Layers. This may be easier in Texas, but in cold areas, wear a button down blouse and a jacket or try just one layer. They tend to crank up the heat in the malls and with all of the people you can easily overheat and get frustrated.

3. Carry a small purse. After you have collected a few bags, the last thing you want is to carry another heavy bag. Just bring the essentials. Wallet, chapstick and your iPhone.

4. One for you, one for them. This is a great rule of thumb, because it is more fun that way! :)

One of my favorite things about the Holidays is being able to stay in my PJ’s all. day. long.  Since it is just my family during Christmas, we all love to lounge around the house, watch movies, bake cookies; ‘ya know the usual holiday activities.  Thankfully this year the gals at Subtle Luxury sent me over a pair of their “Pippa” Loungerie just in time for Christmas. One of our family traditions is to open one gift the night before Christmas, which always happens to be a pair of new pj’s. We all change into our new jammies and cuddle up to watch Home Alone with a cup of hot cocoa. This year was particularly special because Patrick was there to join in all of our traditions. There really is nothing better than a pair of super-soft pj’s, a new fiance, and all of my family by my side.

Christmas morning came early this year with a lovely 6:00am wake up call from my little brother singing “Jingle Bells”, but I would not have it any other way. Thankfully there was lots of coffee and cozy blankets involved as we all gathered around the tree to open presents. I hope you all had a wonderful, warm and safe Christmas with your family and friends.

These few days before the new year are meant for lounging, eating good leftovers (and cookies), and spending time reflecting on the past year. Cheers!
