WHAT TO WEAR TO A BEACH WEDDING

Club Monaco Dress

As the official summer comes to an end next week, wedding season is ramping up! I recently read an article that states September and October have become the two most popular months to get married. That means out with April and June, and in with the Fall weddings!

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

Photo Aug 12, 11 11 44 AM

Anyone else thanking the lucky stars it is Friday? I am welcoming today with a giant cup of coffee and patiently waiting 5 o’clock.  We are supposed to have a “cold front” aka 80 degrees in Dallas this weekend and I am planning to spend every minute outdoors playing with the pups.

White Shirt Dress at Ice Cream Shop

Do you ever get the Monday blues after a really fun weekend? Today, I am feeling like I wish we had one more day to relax before the week gets started.  My weekend kicked off with a fun girl date with Mackenzie downtown with a little gelato (for her), iced coffee (for me), and lots of laughs.

STYLE DETAILS: MAY MUST-HAVES

May Style Must Haves

I credit my personal style to a few things: 1. my mom, who always taught me how to put together the classics and 2. living in 5 cities in 10 years.  While the world has grown smaller over the last decade, thanks to the internet, taking style cues from all the places I have lived has really helped create my personal style.  Growing up in Scottsdale everyone wore sandals year round and sleeveless everything. For the most part, my style was laid back and easy.  Then I moved to the Midwest and my preppy side (that I didn’t know I had) was revealed.  Think Polos with popped collars, navy and pink, and boat shoes.  As I graduated from college, my two styles merged into what someone would call classic casual.  Lately, I have been hearing that term more often when people describe my style and I’ll take it.  Since starting the blog in 2010, my entire goal for  A Dash of Details has been to inspire you with outfits I would actual wear, and outfits you could replicate with items from your own closet. Re-wearing items is perfectly acceptable in my book.   Since moving to Dallas I have noticed people like to wear their latest and greatest.  Nothing wrong with this mentality. I, myself love to dress up for any excuse to dress up, but I still have a hard time putting on a (what I would call) formal dress for date night.  So for now, I think I will stick to my signature, classic, casual style :)

Wedding Season is upon us and I could not be more excited.

Being at the age where at every turn someone is either getting engaged or has a wedding on the horizon, I am always on the lookout for that perfect dress. Finding a long dress that doesn’t look like your a bridesmaid, or doesn’t cost you thousand of dollars can be tough, so when I found this silk number at Club Monaco, I knew I had to have it.  Being neutral, this dress can be dressed up for a black tie affair with some heeled sandals and a slick back ponytail or dressed down for something more casual (think: beach wedding).

If you look closely at my wrist you will notice a gold bracelet. At first glance it will appear to be an ordinary gold cuff, but it really it is much more than just your average bracelet. With Mother’s Day, less than a month away, I am always on the lookout for meaningful gifts. I always struggle with finding that “perfect” gift for my mom and normally end up giving her this candle or a picture frame (these are both rated a 10 on the lame gift scale). This year, I decided to start early in my search for the best Mother’s Day gift to date.  If you have never heard of Uncommon Goods, you will now.  It is one of my best kept secrets.  You can find anything from chalkboard cheese board to handmade jewelry.  After a quick search on the site, I found this Astrology bracelet and knew this was the gift.  Since my mom and I do not live in the same place, I thought it would be fun to give her my astrology sign bracelet, and I would get one of hers (okay, it was actually just a great idea so I could get myself I cute, new bracelet too). But, every time she looked down, she would know she had a little piece of me with her.

STYLE DETAILS

Sometimes you just need a good pair of sweatpants. To be honest, I love getting dressed up for work but my ultimate favorite thing to is change into sweats the second I get home.  This Fall season, I feel like it is acceptable to wear “pj’s” in public, not like the people you see in the airport in oversized grey sweatpants and a hoodie, but the “casual, put together look.”  In the Fall there is nothing better than an oversized cashmere sweater. Add a pair of J.Crew weekend pants and a great bag and you are all set for running errands after work or all weekend long.

When I saw this Club Monaco skirt online a few weeks back, I knew I had to have it. The one problem was I didn’t know if it was going to fit right- I normally have a tough time with skirts because of my height. They never hit at the right spot, are too wide, or just all together bad.  When we were in Toronto, I tried on this beloved skirt and it fit perfectly.  I am loving this girly style with just the perfect amount of edge for Fall and throw on a pair of tights, booties and a sweater for Winter.

Can anyone else believe it is already Thursday? To all of my girlies in New York today- I hope you have a blast at NYFW! So sad I am missing out, but I will be heading down south to Austin for some much needed family time at the S Ranch.  I will definitely be following all of the action on Pinterest and living vicariously through Hallie’s instagram account.

The Perfect One

I have been on the search for the “perfect” leather jacket for a few years now, I decided if I was going to make the investment, I wanted it to be classic, and well.. perfect in my mind.  Leave it to Blair Edie to find the perfect one.. this yummy, camel colored leather from Club Monaco.  It is seriously everything I have been looking for in a jacket and the color is just perfect.  I keep going back and forth on investing in a black or tan leather and today just sealed the deal.  This is the “perfect” one, but of course there are always a few other fabulous options below.
