SISTER SISTER

Mackenzie and Ali on a pink bike

If there is one thing I always wanted when I was little, it was a sister. So, when LOFT asked to me to help celebrate National Sisters Day, I knew I could count on my bestie, Mackenzie to play sisters for the day.

GIFT GUIDE NO. 2: SHOP SMALL

Gift Guide Shop Small

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is support small and local businesses.  I love the personalized touch small shops do to make their guests and shoppers feel extra special. Whether it be a hand written note or pretty wrapping, my favorite small shops go the extra mile. Don’t get me wrong, the ease of a one-stop shop like Nordstrom or Amazon is great, but there is something special about supporting those in your community.

HOME DETAILS: THE LUCITE BAR CART

barcart_1 barcart_2 barcart_3

You may have noticed the lack of home or interior posts on A Dash of Details as of late.  When we moved to Dallas, I decided I would just use what we had and make it work since we are currently renting and saving our pennies for a house of our own. We knew we would only be here for 2 years and I didn’t want to buy something that might not work in a new place. Was it the smart idea? Probably, but I have a serious itch to make this house really feel like home. Maybe it is all of Mackenzie’s talk about her One Room Challenge or just that time of the year when things start to slow down and we are spending more time at home but all I know is I want all of the things.

One of those things is a bar cart.  If you remember our dining room (see our old house tour here), we have a set of lucite chairs at our kitchen table.  The lucite bar cart would compliment them perfectly and will never go out of style.

Here are a few favorites for the perfectly stocked bar cart:

LATELY

Lately in August

If there was one day I needed an extra cup of coffee, today would be that day.

This past weekend was my only weekend at home this month. So naturally we had to soak up all of our favorite Dallas spots.  Triple digits kept us indoors but we found some fun ways to stay cool.  If you are in town, you MUST try brunch at The Rustic.  Think: endless grapefruit mimosas, avocado toast, fried hot chicken, grits, fresh mini donuts, and more! The best part is you don’t choose your favorites, but instead you get everything on the menu for the table! It was a food lovers dream come true.

We wished Mackenzie a happy birthday with gin and tonics and dance parties to Taylor Swift. Be sure to head over to Design Darling and pick up your favorite goodies. She is having 20% off the entire shop, but hurry because the sale ends today!

FINDING YOUR STYLE

This week I have been totally procrastinating on figuring out my wardrobe for ALT.  Oh, I don’t know if I told you lovies, but I am going to Altitude Design Summit next week and I couldn’t be more excited/ nervous! I think it is the unexpected that frightens me the most. I mean hundreds of some of the most inspiring bloggers in one room for three days, celebrities, and hopefully meeting people that become quick and lifelong friends.  I have been blogging now for 2 years, and the one thing I wish I would have done from the beginning is reach out to those who inspire me the most. So now, 2 years later I am finally going to have the opportunity to meet them in person. I may freeze when I meet Jenny from Little Green Notebook or Emily Henderson, who is one of my style icons, or when I finally meet Mackenzie from Design Darling in person (instead of talks over email), and so many more of my favorite bloggers. My goal for the weekend is to be anything but shy, be myself, and soak in every bit of information that I could possibly imagine.

But back to my procrastination, I seriously have no clue what I am going to wear. My style for the most part is simple, classic and neutral (this is where I find myself scrambling for an idea for a party where color is required- insert stressful sigh here).  As I was browsing the internet for I found myself pinning every picture of Olivia Palermo I found as inspiration for the weekend… IF ONLY I HAD HER WARDROBE. Leather skinnies, silk blouses, and amazing coats, let’s just say I would die to walk in her closet for 10 minutes.

So I think I am going to stick with being true to my style, and not go find some poof for my hair or 7 inch wedges so I can stand out.  While I wish I sometimes had the ability to totally let go when it comes to style, I have realized that choosing classic pieces is not such a bad habit to have formed.

THINGS I LOVE

December may be one of my favorite months of the year, not because of the gifts, but because of all the holiday cheer.  I love driving around seeing all of the lights and trees in people’s homes and drinking hot cocoa by the fire (well, normally but it has been 70 degrees these past couple days). In order to stay on top of my gift giving this year, I decided to make my lists and check them twice and, of course, make a few gift guides for all of you lovelies to read and share. This week, I will be sharing all of the essentials- For Her, For Him, For the Boss, The Best friend, and a few more! Hopefully, this will help me and you with the dreaded-waiting-until- the- last- minute- shopping-trips on December 21st. I am totally guilty of this every year!

So without further adeau, here are a few of my favorite things about the month of December:

Perfect party dresses / Peppermint Bark and Hot Toddys / Pretty Wrapping Paper / PJ Sets from J Crew / The first snowfall of the year / Making List and Setting Goals (maybe with this darling planner from Design Darling

6 Things- March

There is something about March that I really love. The first smells of spring, people riding bikes and taking walks in the park, and opening day (I mean I do work in baseball..it’s the best day of the year!).

The 6 things i love especially about March are vacations, the new and exciting launch of Mackenzie’s Design Darling Boutique, the colored jean trend, St. Patrick’s Day- green beer of course!, and the first day of spring.

What are your fav things about March?
