It’s all in the details…

Planning a wedding from another state can get tricky (read my tips on why to hire a wedding planner over on Style Me Pretty). Thankfully, I had an amazing wedding planner who kept me on track during the entire process.  From the venue to the flowers to the photography, Jen got my vision and made it come to life.  It was the little details that our photographer (and now friend), Elyse captured that I constantly find myself looking back at and smiling. The best part, instead of worrying about those little details the day of the wedding, all of our vendors allowed us to completely enjoy the entire day with family and friends.

‘Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.’ – Marilyn Monroe

There is something to be said about the feeling when you get a new pair of shoes or really anything new. It’s a complete feeling of joy and excitement about all of the places those shoes will take me.  I know this may sound extremely superficial and spoiled, but for me clothes have always been a way for me to keep track of memories.  I remember what I wore on the first day of Kindergarten, my first day of my first job, and even when I got my heart broken for the first time. Feeling locked in- doors due to all of this snow is really making me crave sunshine and a good shopping trip to cheer me up!

And we’re off…again…

This time we are headed to sunny Scottsdale for a quick trip with a major wedding to-do list in front of us.  Hopefully we will be checking some of the big things off our list, like setting a date! Our hopes are to sprinkle in a little golf, hiking, and of course some quality family time.

I honestly do not know what I am more excited for, A. starting the wedding planning process or B. getting out of this horribly cold weather.  I am definitely packing some shorts for this trip to 75 degrees and sunny (jealous yet?)

STYLEDETAILS-COATSANDSWEATERSNothing new here, but a definite trend this winter is chunky sweaters and turtlenecks with an oversized coat.  All I want to think about is Spring lately, but we all know (at least for most of the country) that Spring is far far away. Most of our days will be cold, wet or snowy. I know it’s a little depressing to think about.

One of my favorite combos as of late, is my GAP sweater and an oversized coat.  Being, as my mom likes to call it, petite, this trend can be a little tricky for a small frame.  If there are other petite (short) girls out there, my suggestion is invest in tailoring. This, again, is something I learned from my momma. She is petite like me and also worked in retail during my childhood, so making trips to the tailor were totally normal at our house. Ever since she bought me my first pair of designer jeans the tailor has become my best friend.  For any petite friends out there, if you want to wear an oversized coat without looking like your wearing your dad’s jacket, I suggest getting the arms shortened, taken in a bit and hem the bottom of the coat to hit you at your best spot.

* Also, the winner of the Garden of Flavor Juice Cleanse is Tiffany Troutman. Congratulations and you should have an email in your inbox :)

I will be hitting the slopes this year for NYE this year and there are a few essentials that I always bring when skiing.  Keeping warm is a must, and we had to bring a few goodies to ring in 2014.

One of the best parts of the Holiday  is having an excuse to dress up. But  the catch 22 for me is figuring out what to wear. Before our friends annual Christmas party without fail my room looks like a tornado just hit. This year in order to eliminate the stress, and the fact that we will be packing a suitcase for 3 vacations, I really have to plan my outfits in advance. This means no changing my mind at the last second and only bringing one option for each event we will be going to. Did I mention we will be going on THREE different vacations? I know we may be a little crazy but we will have a guaranteed good time!

We will be attending a few parties in Arizona right before Christmas, so this jumpsuit will be the perfect piece to bring with me. I am planning on changing up the accessories and I might throw on a chunky knit to dress it down, and I will probably be wearing it again for NYE (but that is way too far away to think about right now!). What is your favorite go-to piece during the Holidays (are you a dress girl, or do you love a good sequin skirt)?

Happy Friday lovebirds! Can you believe we only have 12 days left until Christmas? This is bananas because I still have so much to do before we leave at the end of next week. For all you procrastinators out there I promise to have a few last minute gift guides early next week!

On the topic of next week, be sure to stop by TOMORROW for a BIG surprise (A little hint: let’s just say I have been working really hard on this and lots of changes are coming to A Dash of Details).

It is also this blog’s 3rd Birthday tomorrow. These years have flown by so quickly and I would have never imagined to have a little corner of the Internet that I love so deeply and that is all because of you! I know I say it a lot but I am so grateful for the love and support of you guys, because without you I probably would have stopped blogging a long time ago. You have opened the doors to so many opportunities to work with some amazing brands these last couple years and I would have never imagined that I would share so much of my life for everyone to read on the internet, but you guys are my advice, my support system (on and off the internet) and I have met so many wonderful people through blogging. These people I can truly call my friends.  So a big THANK YOU to all of you, because without you and your support, A DASH OF DETAILS would never be the same.

You might see a little sneak peek on Instagram today about the big SURPRISE, so stay tuned because you are not going to want to miss it!

Ghosts, Black Cats,  Scary masks…let’s just say I try to avoid all of those scary things.  I am a total chicken when it comes to Halloween. Scary movies are especially out of the picture…seriously guys, nightmares for days! So instead of partaking in the a horror movie marathon, I will be handing out candy (hopefully not eating the entire bag before the kids come by) and watching a few of my favorite movies.

If you don’t want to throw on a pair of ears and call yourself a cat this Thursday, you can still be festive this year and really all year round.  That Zoe Karssen Sweatshirt is one of my favorite, and these Stubbs and Wootton Smoking Slippers are killer.  So I want to hear from you, are you a fan of Halloween or like to stay in like me?

I think I have said it before, but Fall is my favorite season. Sweaters, boots and scarves are just about my three favorite things. I love being able to wear oversized sweaters and skinny jeans, but still look completely put together.  I suggest adding a red or berry lip to a casual outfit to pull the look all together. Another one of my favorite trends this Fall is leather bottoms with a flannel, add tights and booties with a skirt to dress up the look or pair converse with leather pants to dress the look down.  What are your favorite looks for Fall?

A few of my favorite purchases lately:

Rag and Bone Newbury Booties (On Sale!) / Sunday Somewhere Sunglasses / Helmut Lang Sweater / Flannel Popover in Buffalo Print / Baies Diptyque Candle / Top Shop Leather SkirtGold Nail Bracelet / Essie Decadent Dish / Lulu Frost Lucky Number Keychain / SPUN scarf

On a gloomy, rainy day my favorite thing to wear is a cozy sweater and jeans.  Fall weather can be so tricky, one day it is freezing and the next it is 75 and sunny.  We planned to head to the apple orchard today, but of course the rain in the forecast got in the way.  Either way, I find every excuse to wear my rainboots.  Instead of apple picking and eating delicious cider donuts, I am going to attempt some new recipies in the kitchen (wish me luck!), and we will be watching lots of football. Happy Sunday!
