GIFT GUIDE No. 1: MY WISH LIST

Holiday Gift Guide for HerAre you ready? Santa’s workshop (aka, me) has been working day and night to find the best gifts for everyone on your list. Today is the first of 20 gift guides coming your way and tons of holiday content. I know sometimes the holidays and gift giving can be so overwhelming and stressful (ie. your bank account), so I curated guides for every occasion (think: white elephant, DIY gifts and experiential gifts).  You do not have to spend a ton of money to make someone feel special, but just in case you want to, we have that covered, too. ;)

MIDNIGHT SNACK

Late Night Wedding FavorI cannot believe it have been 1.5 years since our wedding day. It really still feels like yesterday I was walking down the aisle in a white dress and eating these french fries in bed after the best night of my life.

DIY DENIM

Denim and Stripes. If you ask me, there is really nothing better than this combo. The classic styles are both in heavy rotation in my closet.  Honestly, you will most likely find me in some version of this outfit more than once a week. :)

One of the biggest denim trends this season is the uneven hem.  For someone who is petite (5’2″ to be exact), it is so hard to find crop jeans that actually fit above the ankle.  Instead of spending $$$ on a pair of denim that might not work, I partnered with Old Navy for a little DIY denim project.

Keep reading to find out how to create the uneven hem denim look for under $50.

DIY: IKEA HACK

Welcome to my first ever DIY project. I was kind of nervous when Patrick and I decided to go with the Ikea furniture but I am so happy with how they turned out.  (please excuse these awful pictures and the pinkish carpet).  We (I should say, Patrick) picked up these 3 Drawer TARVA Dressers and 2 of these six drawer TARVA dressers from Ikea in Pittsburg on his way back home from Christmas.  We (I should say, Patrick) put togther the big dressers and one of the nightstands.  As we were getting ready to build the other, we realized the other nightstand had duplicate part in the box, but I will get to that debacle later.

I purchased these brass pulls for $3 each to replace the ugly stock knobs and stained the dresser with a dark walnut stain, let it dry and TA DA- a nightstand for less than $100! We decided to go with the three drawer dressers for the nightstand in order to have some extra storage which I absolutely love.  My favorite part of the new nightstand is the contrast of the dark wood with our white bedding and headboard.

So back to our debacle, if you were ever hesitant about buying Ikea furniture because you have to put it together… I will change that forever.  I PUT TOGETHER AN IKEA DRESSER on my own.  I want to shout it from the rooftop.  I honestly didn’t think I would be able to do it (let’s just say I am not so great with a hammer), but a couple hours later and some love, my little masterpiece came to life.

UPDATE: NEW HO– USE

Today I thought I would interrupt the Gift Guides for a little life update, here’s a look at our new place! Today marks the first week of living in the new house with the pups.  They are totally loving the fenced in backyard and their sheepskin rug. In the next couple months, I will be posting some of my fun DIY projects I am working on and room updates. Since we are starting from scratch (literally two beds and a couple chairs), I have a lot of work to do but instead of going to a big box store, we decided to take our time and invest in classic, great pieces. So this process may be slower than I would have originally liked, but it will be fun to watch the house progress into a home.

Stay tuned this afternoon for a great Gift Guide that includes some of the best Stocking Stuffers- Hope you are on Santa’s good list.

Feeling Brite

I don’t know what sparked my interest today but I was thinking about how much I used to love my Lite Brite when I was little. It got be thinking about how cool it would be to make a piece of art for my apartment.  I started looking and came across some pretty awesome pieces that I think I could turn into a DIY. I especially love this “delight” piece that was done on Design Sponge* and the Tory Burch Christmas window display by artist, Timothy Paul Meyers.

DIY Love Notes- Valentine’s Day Style

Every year I try and come up with creative valentine’s gifts for P and this year we decided to make something handmade instead of buying presents.  Two years ago, when I was abroad in Italy, he sent me 14 love notes to open everyday until Valentine’s Day (I know what your thinking… so romantic) He is really great at gift giving and I always try to step up my game every year.  I saw these cute handmade cards on Cupcakes and Cashmere and had the idea to do the same.  I can’t tell you what I am going to do with them or else it would spoil the surprise.  Until Valentine’s Day….

I found this tutorial on fake calligraphy here and also Mackenzie from Design Darling made a few of her own.

Illusion Bench

Yesterday I was flipping through the pages of my new Anthro catalogue in the store and came across this amazing plexi-glass bench.  It is not only modern and clean, but it would look great in a small space since visually it it clear.  I especially loved how they styled the bench with coffee table books inside. I was so excited and really wanted to order it right then and there until… I looked at the price.  It was over $1,000- a little out of my price range right now. Good news is that the girl at the register was telling me I could totally make it myself and that they were starting a window display using a similar design for under $100.  Since I haven’t had a DIY project to do in a while I decided this would be a great one to work on.  Wish me luck!

Day 7: A Dash of Calendars

So I know I am a little late on this cute idea for Day 7 of 25 Days of Details but I have always loved the idea to make a non-traditional advent calendar with little gifts or love notes for a boyfriend and the last gift would be their Christmas present. Here are some non-traditional, easy DIY advent calendars…maybe next year!
