LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

Happy Friday all you lovelies! I wanted to say thank you for all of the sweet emails and comments about my style posts lately. It has been really fun/ weird to get in front of the camera after blogging for almost 4 years and I am absolutely loving every second of it, so thank you!

Anywho, do ya’ll have fun plans for the weekend?  Naturally, Patrick and I are headed on another trip this weekend. We are going to Dallas for one of my besties weddings.  Since it will be a quick trip, we are trying to jam in all of my favorite Dallas spots (I am bummed we will not have time for the Fair). Are there any places/ restaurants that we must stop by tomorrow? I would love to hear your suggestions!

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY + WINNER

Happy Friday! This week just flew by and I am definitely not complaining!  I do not tell you guys enough but I wanted to say thank you so much for reading every week, you are the reason I keep blogging. Every comment, email, tweet, you name it makes everyday just a little better and brighter and gives me a reason to do what I love! So keep them coming! Honestly, this blog and your comments are helping me get through this transition in a new town and hardly knowing anyone.  If there are any Columbus, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh bloggers out there, I would love to hear from you.  We live pretty much in the middle of all of these cities (in a really small town), so I would love to meet up. Does anyone else think this sounds like the kid in kindergarten that asked, “can we be friends,” but I figure I have nothing to lose.

Congrats to Rebeccca Woodcock of Darling Cashmere for winning a pair of John Ruvin frames of your choice.  You will be receiving an email shortly.  For the rest of you, thank you so much for entering the giveaway.  John Ruvin is having 30% off all of their summer sunglasses, just use the code SUNWEAR30 at the checkout.

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

TGIF lovies! I don’t know if I have ever been so excited for a work week to be over more than this one (I think it must be a full moon because everyone is a little nutty around this joint).  I am definitely taking full advantage of casual Friday by wearing this with these and a top knot since I am taking off a little early to go pick up some great finds Michelle and I found on Craigslist and get my haircut (goodbyte split ends!). Tonight I am stoked to have dinner and drinks with Melanie, Sarah, Michelle and Lindsay at Louie’s Wine Dive.  I will also be attempting some new things this weekend that include using this, making tortilla soup in my new crock pot , and painting my nails this color (I am normally a red girl, my favorite is Essie Clambake).

Hope you all have a Happy Friday.  Also I am so excited to be over on GOLP (Girl of Lincoln Park) today talking about my favorite Spring trends.  Stop bye and say hello!

Weekend Fun

Happy Happy Friday!  I thankfully had a lovely day off today so my weekend started early.  It included a quick run at the gym and some much need sun bathing by the pool with Patrick.  We have a fun filled weekend that involves the farmer’s market, pool side, and good barbecue and friends.

Disco Ball

Happy Friday! My goal this weekend is to relax and enjoy time with good friends (and maybe some vino). With a half day today, I was able to lay by the pool and pamper myself with a pedicure in Essie Orange It’s Obvious and a manicure in Essie Nice is Nice.  Let’s just say, it has been a wonderful day.

Treat Day: Apple Cider Inspired

This weekend P and I are going to the cider mill in Louisburg.  It is the cutest little place where you can pick your pumpkin from the vines, eat apple cider donuts, drink warm apple cider, and ride around the corn maze on a tractor full of hay.  (I grew up in the desert- hence, I was like a kid in a candy store last year when I got to a REAL pumpkin patch for the first time).

Here is a recipe for homeade Apple Cider Donuts from Smitten Kitchen

1 cup apple cider
3 1/2 cups flour, plus additional for the work surface
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick or 2 ounces) butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil or shortening (see my explanation in the post) for frying

Make the doughnuts: In a saucepan over medium or medium-low heat, gently reduce the apple cider to about 1/4 cup, 20 to 30 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Set aside.

Using an electric mixer on medium speed (with the paddle attachment, if using a standing mixer) beat the butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth. Add the eggs, one at a time, and continue to beat until the eggs are completely incorporated. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally. Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the reduced apple cider and the buttermilk, mixing just until combined. Add the flour mixture and continue to mix just until the dough comes together.

Line two baking sheets with parchment or wax paper and sprinkle them generously with flour. Turn the dough onto one of the sheets and sprinkle the top with flour. Flatten the dough with your hands until it is about 1/2 inch thick. Use more flour if the dough is still wet. Transfer the dough to the freezer until it is slightly hardened, about 20 minutes. Pull the dough out of the freezer. Using a 3-inch or 3 1/2-inchdoughnut cutter — or a 3 1/2-inch round cutter for the outer shape and a 1-inch round cutter for the hole from a set like this, as I did — cut out doughnut shapes. Place the cut doughnuts and doughnut holes onto the second sheet pan. Refrigerate the doughnuts for 20 to 30 minutes. (You may re-roll the scraps of dough, refrigerate them briefly and cut additional doughnuts from the dough.)

Add enough oil or shortening to a deep-sided pan to measure a depth of about 3 inches. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan and heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 350°F*. Have ready a plate lined with several thicknesses of paper towels.

Fry and top the doughnuts: Carefully add a few doughnuts to the oil, being careful not to crowd the pan, and fry until golden brown, about 60 seconds. Turn the doughnuts over and fry until the other side is golden, 30 to 60 seconds. Drain on paper towels for a minute after the doughnuts are fried. Dip the top of the warm doughnuts into the glaze or cinnamon sugar mixture (if using) and serve immediately.

Happy Friday!
