NEW YORK STYLE

NEWYORKSTYLE1 NEWYORKSTYLE6 NEWYORKSTYLE2

Like the chic French girl, there is something effortless about the “New York girl”.  The moment I step off the airplane, I feel a rush of energy through my body. I feel fearless, I take risks, and I am independent. Not that I don’t do these things on a daily basis at home, but there is something different about walking the streets in New York.  It is a feeling I cannot really describe, but it is something special and I love it.

Every time I pack for New York, I always travel with my five basics and add a few statement pieces to push my style. If you have been to NYC or live there, you know what I am talking about; anything goes and no one takes a second look. There are a few ladies I always take a note from when making my packing list (see it tomorrrow). Danielle, We Wore What, Blaire, Atlantic-Pacific and , Arielle, Something Navy ooze that ‘New York Cool Girl Style’.

CYBER MONDAY

December 2nd, otherwise known as CYBERMONDAY ie: the largest online shopping day in the world.

If you are like me this year, most of my holiday shopping will be done online and why not feel like you are getting a good deal. For me, I used to get completely overwhelmed when it came to online shopping. So I decided to follow a few easy rules this year to get me through this years busiest shopping day from the comfort of my own sofa :)

1. MAKE A LIST: Write down each person you need to get a gift for, maybe a few things that may be good for that person.

2. NARROW DOWN YOUR SEARCH: I am all about expanding my search, but to keep from getting overwhelmed this season try the retailers that are one stop shops like Nordstrom, Shopbop/East Dane, or Target.

3. KEEP ON TARGET: I know it is easy to get distracted by all of the sparkly baubles on BaubleBar, but remember you are buying for others so make sure you check off things on your list before buying for yourself this year! (or you can follow the one for me, one for you trick like I do!)

4. PERSONALIZE IT: A ton of retailers like Gigi New York, BaubleBar and many others offer personalization for their products. A little personalization goes a long way, especially when it comes to in-laws or parents.

5. HAVE FUN: Shopping should be fun not stressful, so don’t get overwhelmed and have a good time!

TRAVEL WITH GIGI

Today is known as the busiest traveling day of the year. Thankfully this year I decided to beat the rush and head to Austin a little early. Last week I talked about my travel style but there were a few things that made this trip even better. Since it was freezing in Columbus (and actually Austin too!) when I headed out, I had to carry a jacket. This is something I do not typically do, but I decided on this trench so I could fold it up and put it in my bag during the flight. My new GIGI New York bag was the biggest lifesaver. Since I knew I was going to be gone for an entire week, I had to bring my laptop and charger. This meant I was not going to be able to carry on my typical purse. The Taylor Tote seriously changed my life. Not only is it sturdy enough to fit my TRUFFLE pouche, a scarf, and my laptop and charger, it is light enough that it didn’t weigh me down.

I especially love the gold monogram on the Taylor Tote, it just gives it a little special touch and also makes a great gift for the working girl or jet setter! Be sure to check out their site on Black Friday and Cyber Monday because they are going to have some deals you will not want to miss!

STYLE DETAILS: TRAVEL IN STYLE

Today is all about holiday travel and looking good doing it.  There is nothing worse than standing in front of someone with grey baggy sweatpants on looking like a complete mess and they just happen to have a water bottle in their bag going through security.  For someone that is a frequent traveler like myself, my biggest pet peeve is people that look like they are going to a slumber party at the airport, especially when carrying a full size pillow. THIS IS NOT OKAY. There are definitely ways to still be comfortable while still looking cute.  Even wearing your favorite white tee and a wrap with leggings is a great way to look put together, but really feel like you are still in your pjs.

Pet peeve number two, people that have unorganized carry-ons. I have even seen a lady with three kids that is more organized than some people.  Thanks to my TRUFFLE Petite Clarity pouch, I keep all of my liquids in this pouch and keeps my Gigi New York Tote completely organized.  Also having a laptop sleeve allows you to get through security in a jiffy.  Thankfully, we finally hit A-List status which means no lines for us this holiday travel season!

TRUFFLE Petite Clarity Pouch (perfect gift for the traveler) / Cashmere Scarf / J.Brand Jeans / Jewelry Travel Case / J. Crew Sweater / Damsel X Gorjana Necklace / Computer Pouch / Kate Spade iPhone Case / Gigi New York Tote / Stella McCartney Sunglasses

WELL HELLO, MONDAY

After my alarm gave me quite the wake up call this morning at 6:30am and a few hits of the snooze button later, Monday hit me like a hurricane and I am throwing myself a pity party today. Sometimes you just need a good pity party, right? I feel like I have a vacation hangover, ya know that feeling of complete exhaustion and missing all of the fun you had the day before. Mine normally hits after I go through security at the airport, but this time may have been amplified by the fact we were completely unplugged the entire trip (yes, no cell service or wi-fi). This probably was the best thing, since I didn’t have a chance to feel like I missed out on all of the fun happening in New York this weekend.  Thanks to Instagram, Pinterest, all of the street style photogs, and texts from friends; I caught up on all of the action last night.

Not quite as glamourous as the girls at Fashion Week, but I loved sporting my cowboy boots and cutoffs all weekend.

LATELY

So I know this is not exactly as of late, but I have been wanting to share a few shots from behind the scenes of a little video shoot I was a part of in Atlantic Beach with some seriously talented bloggers, Devon, Natalie, Hallie and Mel for Sauza Tequila and Glam.com. Back in June, I headed up to New York for a quick trip that ended up being an experience I will never forget It was such a blast meeting some of my new BFF4L, and being a part of something really special.  The entire staff was fabulous and since this was my first time really being in front of the camera (for a really long time), everyone made us feel like movie stars for the day/night.  After almost 12 hours of shooting we wrapped with Hallie making a big splash into the pool. Stay tuned to see the entire video!

Natalie, Hallie and Mel did some really cute recaps too! Check ’em out.

LATELY

I have now been back from New York and Nashville for a week, but I never had a chance to post these snapshots from my trip to the city that never sleeps.  The pictures I took, really do not do my trip any justice.  I had such an amazing three days in the city, that left me feeling completely inspired.  I was so lucky to have spent time with my fav cousin, catch up with two of my Aunts, and enjoy some time in Atlantic Beach with the Glam Team and some amazing bloggers-which was the actual reason why I was in New York, and I will be dishing all of the exciting things that happened soon!

I spent the days roaming the city by myself. At first I thought I would be nervous to be alone, but there is something about New York that makes me feel confident. I walked pretty much everywhere I went from SOHO to the Upper West Side, to the Meatpacking district back to Chelsea.  I love how every area has a completely different vibe, and in each place I had a completely different experience.

My favorite spots included dinner at ABC Kitchen– the food was incredible and the conversation was even better, Stopping by the Elizabeth and James‘ offices (thanks to all of the girls for being so nice and especially for all of the goodies). I wandered around SOHO on my last day and stopped into Paul Smith to see my cousin’s darling office- being surrounded by clothes while I worked would decrease my productivity by a million, then walked across the street to see the BaubleBar shop- and almost caved and bought one of these Sarah Chloe bangles and this pinky ring.  We grabbed a bite to eat at BREAD, which was this cute little spot in NOHO, then I headed to the Highline for the first time.  I had heard so much the amazing walkway, but seeing it myself was breathtaking.

Are any of you lovelies from NYC?  I will be headed back there in September, and I would love any recommendations about where to go next time!

TRAVEL DETAILS

Concrete jungle is calling my name tomorrow which happens to be a last minute addition to our travel itinerary this summer.  When I think about packing for Manhattan, I think the classics- white and black.  The temps are heating up in the Big Apple so I want to make sure I am comfortable and cool while I walk the city, so comfy shoes are a definite must have.  My suit case is filled with a structured bag, classic shift dresses, distressed denim, and fun accessories for a pop of color.

LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

YAYA, it’s the first day of summer and you can definitely feel the humidity rising, and of course my hair is starting to frizz out of control.  I thought I was going to attempt another Blowout, but instead I decided to try the “all natural” look this summer.  Doesn’t this picture make you want to throw your hair up and roll around in the sand?  Since there is no sand in Kansas City, I am going to try and spend my weekend by the pool soaking up the sun (with sunscreen on, of course). And probably doing a little shopping in preperation for my trips to New York and Nashville. There are some great sales going on right now! I am definitely hitting up J Crew for 25% NEWSTYLES and Anthro is having up to 50% off sale, too.

I hope ya’ll have some fun plans for the first day of summer.

EYE CANDY

Sorry for the lack of “Lately” pictures today, honestly not much exciting happened over here this past weekend.  I spent most of the weekend at work and some did major lounging the other part of the weekend.  I am excited for this week to be a little slower pace and enjoy the warm weather (finally!).  Lindsay and I are headed to happy hour tomorrow and Patrick arrives on Thursday- so I have a lot to look forward to this week.

Today, I plan to take a deep breath, dig out of a long list of emails, and try for an early night at home.  In the meantime, check out these beautiful pictures from the extrememly talented, Jamie of Ann Street Studio.  If I lived in New York, this event would be my dream, I mean endless bottles of Veuve Clicquot… yes, please.
