ANIMAL PRINT SHOP

Today I was missing our old house in Kansas City. It was the first time a place was completely mine, well ours (: so I decided to share some of my favorite things from our old living room.

One of my favorite things about our old place was the living room because was so open and full of light. The room stated as one big white (cream) blank slate. Neither of us owned any furniture, so it was so fun to pick pieces out together that we knew we were worth the investment. * A little funny side note about that, all of this is in a fun storage unit.

My favortie part about furnishing our place was picking out art. Obviously, just starting out (with absolutely nothing) we could not afford to spend bucko-bucks on artwork, but I knew I wanted something original and quirky. Insert= the American Buffalo. The room was starting to feel a little girly, so the print added a little masculine touch. When I ordered the Buffalo from Sharon Montrose’s Animal Print Shop, she sent us this darling little giraffe print, too and naturally I have to put it in a frame.

While I am not missing my girlie, Zoey, this picture was just too cute to leave out.  She is just such a ham.

Shop Sharon Montrose’s collection from The Animal Print Shop, also the navy and white pillow is from the amazing and talented, Rebecca Atwood!

BEFORE + AFTER

I have been meaning to share with you a little before and after project I worked on a few months ago. I found these benches on Craigslist for a whopping $30 (well, actually I should give Michelle the credit). I had been searching for the perfect x benches our living room, but I was looking for something so specific that I could not seem to find the “perfect ones”. I bought these from Target but they were just too small for the space, so I returned them and a few weeks later Michelle stumbled upon the ones you see in the picture above. Let me tell you, they were pretty gross and dirty. However, they were exactly what I was looking for to fill the space. Michelle and I took a trip to some local stores to find the perfect fabric. I ended up with this Robert Allen Herringbone which fits perfectly with my custom Rebecca Atwood pillow (pictures to come, I am obsessed). So, do you like how they turned out?

LATELY

What a weekend! I know it is Tuesday already but Monday really just flew right by, I did not even have a second to blink.  We finally made some major progress at the house this weekend. Hanging art and getting ourselves a little more organized was so nice.  The pool opened on Friday so of course I had to take a half day and enjoy a little R&R and few cocktails in the sun. I am loving my new suit.

We snagged some fresh peonies from TJ’s on Saturday and picked up Bill the Buffalo from the framer.  How do you think it turned out? Side note: please excuse my bookshelves and lack of sofa pillows- they are still in the works.  The talented, Rebecca Atwood is making a custom pillow for the chair and I cannot wait to see it.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Now that we finally have all of our “big” furniture orders complete, like our sofa and chair, and this coffee table that arrives today. I am so excited to fill in with the little details, like pillows and art, and of course some great coffee table books.  I have been struggling to pick a color pallet for the living room. At first I wanted everything to be white. Ya know, like white walls, white sofa, pillows, you name it but then I snapped back into reality and realized that I have two 65 pound dogs that like to snuggle.  So, there I was with no ideas and had to change my entire plan (and of course it was for the better).  We ended up with a neutral linen that pretty much goes with just about anything, and a cream wool knotted rug that Patrick still thinks was a mistake (I obviously disagree).  So here is the other dilemma, I found these awesome tufted ottomans on Craigslist that definitely need some love and new fabric but I was still struggling on a color pallet. Well, that was until a few days ago when I came across these Rebecca Atwood pillows.  Talk about perfect timing, it was like someone took the idea out of my head.  I am obsessed with the two tone, one of a kind pillows with the perfect gold detail on the zipper.  Immediately I ordered these and these for the sofa, and still on the lookout for the perfect fabric for the ottomans, but at least I have a little direction now.  If any of you lovely readers have great fabric sites, I would love to hear!
