Sometimes you just need a good pair of sweatpants. To be honest, I love getting dressed up for work but my ultimate favorite thing to is change into sweats the second I get home.  This Fall season, I feel like it is acceptable to wear “pj’s” in public, not like the people you see in the airport in oversized grey sweatpants and a hoodie, but the “casual, put together look.”  In the Fall there is nothing better than an oversized cashmere sweater. Add a pair of J.Crew weekend pants and a great bag and you are all set for running errands after work or all weekend long.

This summer is all about the basics and in Kansas City the best place to find everything you need is at the Country Club Plaza.  If you are not from KC, the Plaza is a shopping district with some of the best stores this city has to offer, along with great patios for happy hour like Gram and Dun and Coal Vines for a glass of rose.

Here are my picks from some the the Plaza’s top stores

Zoku Classic Pop Maker from Sur La Table– $14.95 / Neon Border Napkins from Anthropologie– $28.00 / Denim Shorts in Patina from J Crew– $79.00 / Cotton Jersey Dress from H&M– $9.95  (what a steal!)/ Ruffled Bandeau Bikini from Forever 21– $26.60 / Panama Hat from J Crew– $58.00 / KC Cap from Standard Style– $42.00 / Karen Walker Sunglasses from Standard Style / Mirrored Ray Bans from Sunglass Hut- $159.95 Tory Burch Silicone iPhone Case from Halls Kansas City– $31.50

Everytime Patrick comes to town for a weekend our goal is to try and go to at least one new restaurant in the city.  This weekend we made that happen, but instead of one we tried four new-to-us restaurants.  We ended up at Voltaire in the West Bottoms, Anton’s Taproom in the Crossroads, Remedy in Waldo and Port Fonda in Westport, it was our own little perfect food tour of Metro Kansas City. On Monday, Patrick let me snap a few photos in front of the Roasterie sign downtown.  Since we are talking about supporting local businesses, I thought I should mention that everything except his watch face was purchased or designed by someone local to Kansas City.  His tee, hat, and denim are all Baldwin, his shoes are from Standard Style and his watchband comes from a local leather company called KC Co.  Both of us take pride in supporting Kansas City, so every couple weeks I am going to highlight a brand, restaurant, store, or artist that we genuinely enjoy.

As the three day weekend and the official kick-off to summer approaches, Sunday and Monday are the perfect excuses to pull out all the red, white and blue.  I love being festive for the holidays, especially if that means wearing a blue and white striped sundress, comfy sandals and fun red lipstick.  I decided to stay in town this weekend to celebrate the holiday with friends.  We have a big barbecue planed on Sunday afternoon and hopefully will be poolside on Monday enjoying my day off.

If you know Mara Hoffman, you know her love for color and prints.  She is one of my favorite designers as of late.  I love her use of geometric prints with feminine details and lines.  Her bathing suits are killer, and I love that you can find her suits at Madewell.  Since I am leaving for the beach soon, I thought Mara Hoffman’s collection would be perfect for Style Details.  I am kind of obsessed with the white embroidered maxi, and that printed caftan for over my suits.  If I was brave enough, I would even buy this darling one piece, but I think I am going to stick with this one instead.

So, it is no secret I have had a slight obsession with Joie.  This obsession really started back in high school when I purchased by first ever Joie silk top (it was kind of a big deal).  The brand is so classic and timeless and the quality is top-notch- something to note: I still have that shirt and it is in perfect condition from almost 10 years ago.

Any who, I am going totally crazy with the cold weather in Kansas City. I still have not been able to pull out my shorts just yet and that is just not okay in my book.  Also, the fact that I have been going through all of my friends pictures from their weekend at Coachella and having major FOMO. As I am dreaming about the California sun and browsing the Spring Collection, these two outfits are at the top of my wish list.  Talk about statement pieces.  I don’t know if I am bold enough to wear the matching shorts and blazer like Amy from Song of Style but she totally rocked it.  However, I think I could go for full lace and the perfect pair of sandals and sunnies.

This and That- 4th of July

The Trend: 4th of July Style

For You: Try these darling Current/Elliot star print boyfriend shorts with a white v-neck tee for the 4th.

For Your Home:  Since you will never own the original Jasper John’s Flag because it’s in the permanent collection in the MoMA, a print of the famous flag in a cool frame will have to do.

Weekend Uniform-Pool Side Style

This weekend was a blast with most of our time spent by the pool, we may have even had a little too much sun. For the majority of the weekend, I was in a swim suit lounging on a chair reading my book or chatting with Patrick pool side.  Don’t you just love this bright Tori Praver suit?

Here are some of my favorite pool side essentials:

1. This cute suit by Tori Praver

2. A hat to block the sun like this one from Maison Scotch

3. A pair of cat-eyed Persol sunnies

4. This tote to carry all of your magazines and such

5. And a Lemlem scarf

Guy Style

Why is everything so easy for guys? Or that’s how I feel lately. They go to a store, grab a shirt, jeans, etc. and it fits. I try on hundreds of dresses, pants, really anything and most of the time it doesn’t work.  Patrick was chatting with me the other day about needing a new pair of swim trunks for the pool this weekend. I did a little browsing online and found J Crew, naturally, had the best looking trunks.  I think he is going to go with the gingham (I posted a while back about my love affair with the preppy pattern).  Which one would you pick for your bf or hubby?
