While I am not ready for summer to end just yet, the sale of the year is here! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts today (for card holders only––the public can start shopping on July 20th). I headed into the store yesterday for a sneak peek at the entire sale. Y’all it is goood this year. The list is extensive, but if you are anything like me, I love an excuse for a great deal on something I would be purchasing for the season anyways.
If you are not familiar with the sale, here’s the scoop: Nordstrom selects all new arrivals for the upcoming season and discounts them for a limited amount of time. With over 100 pages of product, the sale can get super overwhelming to browse. In order to stay on track, I have created a shopping strategy so I end up buying things I really love and/or need.

I’ll be honest, up until a year ago I was never really a shoe girl. I was all about splurging on handbags and timeless pieces for my wardrobe, but couldn’t seem to justify investing in shoes. I was really missing out, but I am sure my bank account was thanking me! Once I bought my first pair of designer shoes, I couldn’t turn back. Don’t get me wrong, I love finding a great pair at Old Navy or J.Crew, but there is something about timeless, great quality shoes that is hard to beat. Keep reading for my 5 pairs of shoes you need this spring!

“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars”- Les Brown
Dreams and goals are something everyone has or aspires to have, but why does fear always seem to get in the way. When the risk is almost greater than the reward, I always seem to play it on the safe side. I make excuses to myself, find the easy way out or just tell myself it will never happen. Today is the day this is all going to change.
At lunch yesterday, my friend Katie introduced me to this book that has really affected her life. The book is about your life story. After we left, I sat in the car and asked myself the question, “do I like my story?” My first response was of course, I really love my life. I love all of the people in my life, but is my story really something worth telling? Have I made an impact on other people? Have I taken risks, overcome obstacles, or am I just living the life I am supposed to live. I tend to think that I live an interesting life, but routine can get in the way of a great life story. What’s your story this week?
Just a little food for thought this Friday! I hope all you lovies have a wonderful weekend, maybe even a little St. Patty’s day celebration. I know I will be drinking green mimosa and digging in the back of my closet for something green so I don’t get pinched. :)
Ha. Just kidding, but seriously these Tieks are the most comfortable flats I have ever worn. I know most people think when your petite, you should never wear flats (aka my momma who is also a little lady), but I have always followed my own rules when it comes to footwear. Since I work in a very casual environment- just think: Lululemons and Nikes everyday, I am always in flats.
My friend Hallie always raves about her Tieks and how great they are so for living in New York. I can finally attest to how comfy these shoes really are and how they fold up and fit into a small purse. Genius! When I was in New York last week, I carried these babies with me everywhere. I knew 5inch heels on cobblestone streets, in the West Village and add a few glasses of wine could turn into a complete disaster. Needless to say, they were a lifesaver. Now that I am back in Dallas, I have been wearing these black leather ones with just about everything.
Also, I have been on such a jeans kick lately and I really cannot get enough of these new Frame ones. To add to my addiction, Piperlime is having 30% off all styles using the code GOODJEANS. You’re welcome :)
“The most colorful thing in the world is black and white, it contains all colors and at the same time excludes all.” ― Vikrmn
White has always been a go-to color for me during the summer ( I assume for most, we are in the same boat). White flowy dresses, tees, and jeans are the things I find myself drawn too when the temperatures starts to rise. I was still missing missing a white staple piece. I had my classic black blazer but there is something so chic about a white blazer when you pair it with just about anything, Insta-chic is what I like to call it. Taking style cues from one of my favorites, I ventured to Nordstrom to find the perfect one. You would have thought I was on some sort of mission impossible because I searched the entire store, pulling every white blazer they had. Some had shoulder pads, some were too short, and then I found what I had been looking for all this time; the perfect white blazer.
I wore this outfit on a date night with Patrick to one of our new favorite restaurants, the Porch. It’s the perfect spot to dine al fresco, enjoy some good southern cooking, and delicious cocktails.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”- Socrates
It has now been three months since we moved to Dallas, and to say I am not completely head over heels with this city would be a lie. Shopping, great food, and amazing friends have left me feeling full. I found myself focusing most of my time off of my phone and computer (minus, the countless hours of work) without reason.
For the last two weeks, I went back and fourth about calling it quits, but every time the thought came into my mind I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I still felt like there was something missing. The more I sat on the idea, the more I came to the realization that A Dash of Details is my passion. It is something I wake up in the morning for, and it is something I could spend countless hours on (even if only 2 people are reading my letters everyday). Never in a million years did I think this blog would give me so much joy and an outlet for all of the things I love. The funny thing is I was never much of a writer growing up, but sitting down at my computer screen everyday, thoughts just spill out onto the pages. This space has always been about what I love, who I am and all the little details in between.
While I don’t know where I am going just yet, I am focusing on building the new rather than focusing my energy on where I was. So, in case you missed me, I am back and ready to spill my heart out onto these pages again.
Exploring our new city has been fun, but finding our favorite places has started to make it feel more like home.
It has been almost 2 months since we packed up and moved to Dallas and we have been exploring our new city ever since that day. We have yet to try the same restaurant twice, but there are a few things that are starting to make this city feel like home. Coffee and running outside are two of those things for me. My favorite coffee shop is right by our house and has the most delicious homemade almond milk latte. Oh, and did I mention it has a perfectly curated selection of some of my favorite brands and coffee table books. As of late, my morning routine consists of a pit stop for coffee before sitting down to work at my desk. This has made it easier to get up and get dressed in the mornings. One of my favorites recently is an easy white linen tee, white denim and a light weight scarf. Shawl Smith London has some of my new favorites, like this one and this one. They are perfect for throwing on over a summer dress or a casual white tee for a pop of color. Thanks to my friends at Shawl Smith London, they are offering all A Dash of Details readers 25% off your order by using the code: SSL25. Happy Shopping!

Wedding Season is upon us and I could not be more excited.
Being at the age where at every turn someone is either getting engaged or has a wedding on the horizon, I am always on the lookout for that perfect dress. Finding a long dress that doesn’t look like your a bridesmaid, or doesn’t cost you thousand of dollars can be tough, so when I found this silk number at Club Monaco, I knew I had to have it. Being neutral, this dress can be dressed up for a black tie affair with some heeled sandals and a slick back ponytail or dressed down for something more casual (think: beach wedding).
If you look closely at my wrist you will notice a gold bracelet. At first glance it will appear to be an ordinary gold cuff, but it really it is much more than just your average bracelet. With Mother’s Day, less than a month away, I am always on the lookout for meaningful gifts. I always struggle with finding that “perfect” gift for my mom and normally end up giving her this candle or a picture frame (these are both rated a 10 on the lame gift scale). This year, I decided to start early in my search for the best Mother’s Day gift to date. If you have never heard of Uncommon Goods, you will now. It is one of my best kept secrets. You can find anything from chalkboard cheese board to handmade jewelry. After a quick search on the site, I found this Astrology bracelet and knew this was the gift. Since my mom and I do not live in the same place, I thought it would be fun to give her my astrology sign bracelet, and I would get one of hers (okay, it was actually just a great idea so I could get myself I cute, new bracelet too). But, every time she looked down, she would know she had a little piece of me with her.
