You may have noticed I took a little unexpected break from the blog for the last two weeks. This was never my intention and I had this weird guilt as the days went by and I didn’t post anything. The real story was that my day job took us on quite the interesting adventure. Many of you probably don’t know what I do, so here’s the quick story.  I’ll  be back Monday with regular content and some exciting news!

Two Thursdays ago, my fiancé and I hopped on a plane and headed to Scottsdale for a quick weekend getaway (or so we thought) to celebrate my birthday. We had a great weekend and then got news we would be working on a quick 5 day project in a small town in Mississippi. So if you don’t know, Patrick and I work together for an oil and gas company, a job I absolutely love and everyday am grateful to have found something that I like to do and also have the flexibility to work from home, blog, and still have a life.

We arrived is Mississippi 2 Sundays ago, for what we thought would be a quick and painless trip with a few pitstops to Oxford and New Orleans on the way home, but we were SOO wrong. We worked until midnight every night and on top of everything we had no internet the entire time (hence no blogging). After a few long nights, the project was extended an entire week.  More work, late nights and few pieces of fried chicken later, we finally completed our project and made it to New Orleans for a night and then back to Dallas for the weekend, just in time for my bestie to come visit me. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see our shenanigans around town.  Let’s just say August turned into quite the whirlwind.

Happy First Friday of the year. I feel like this short week at work has been the most productive week since the beginning of the holiday season. This weekend I am eager to continue to tackle some projects at home. I can’t wait to start sharing some pictures of our (somewhat slow) progress we have made on the blog.  Here is what we have completed so far: Last weekend Patrick built our beautiful farmhouse table, stained the bedroom furniture, painted the downstairs bathroom white and I was inspired by Little Green Notebook’s Ikea Hack Desk project (maybe one of my favorite additions to my office).  Let’s just say we made some major progress at the end of 2012.

To kick off 2013, I have some big plans for this weekend:

– Paint my office this color

– Hang all of our artwork in the office and kitchen

– Work on some DIY art projects for my new IKEA frames

– Pick up my cowhide rugs (similar here) that are finally ready

– Go antique shopping to find the perfect coffee table in the West Bottoms

– Clean out my closet and donate to one of my favorite local charities

– Try to relax and refresh as much as possible

I hope you all have a fabulous First Friday of the new year!

For the Long Work Days…

I have been crazy these last couple weeks at work and I have a few things that keep me sane.  Making lists, lists and more lists is the number one thing that keeps me going.  I love being able to cross things off and file away and it would be even better with these cute “Long List“, “Short List” Kate Spade Notebooks. Also, I would die for that Kate Spade Laptop bag.

So I know what you are thinking.. two birthdays, two days before Christmas! I am one lucky girl!

Nice Rock

By now everyone knows I have a major girl crush on Anne Hathaway.  She is whitty, funny and beautiful and now has a sparkling rock on her finger and a man to share in all the fun.  Anne’s long time boyfriend, Adam Shulman proposed before Thanksgiving but were just seen together at the Kennedy Center Honors sporting her new sparkler, which was custom designed by her new fiance.  How cute!

Day 5: A Dash of Holiday Cards

Day 5 of 25 Days of Details- One of my favorite parts of the holidays is designing our yearly Christmas card.  It usually is my brother and I making funny faces, hugging, or laughing. Unfortunately this year we weren’t able to capture a great picture with me living in Kansas City.  I thought since I am now an “adult” it may be fun to send out cute postcards to my friends and family.  I have always loved Rifle’s designs but this years holiday collection knocked it out of the park for me.  I think I am going to get these

December Cheer

Happy December 1st! I think the month of December is my favorite time of the year because I get to enjoy the company of great people and family, wear cosy sweaters and boots, drink hot chocolate, and this year- decorate our own Christmas Tree! Hope everyone enjoys this month as much as I do.

Between Wind and Water

I was browsing one of my favorite blogs the other day, Oh Joy and came across a great giveaway from Hound, a Chicago based company.  I am especially in love with the Spring 2011 campaign, Between Wind and Water.  It could have a little to do with how excited I am for our lake trip this weekend.
