Bride and Groom Kissing

It is crazy to think it has been two years since we said I do. It feels like yesterday, I was getting ready with all “my people” before walking down the isle to marry my best friend. Patrick and I have been together for nine years and today we are celebrating our second wedding anniversary.

Minted Bachelorette Invitations

I still cannot believe this year marks two years of marriage. It still feels like yesterday I was planning all those little details for our April wedding (along with my amazing wedding planner, Jen).  From the moment we got engaged, there was a sense of urgency to get everything accomplished all at once.  If I could have given myself one bit of advice, it would be to take your time and enjoy the process, be decisive and go with your gut!

Late Night Wedding FavorI cannot believe it have been 1.5 years since our wedding day. It really still feels like yesterday I was walking down the aisle in a white dress and eating these french fries in bed after the best night of my life.

After we decided on Costa Rica as our honeymoon destination, we had to choose the resort.  The Four Seasons has always been our favorite resorts in the states. After a little research, we knew the Four Seasons Costa Rica was the perfect fit for our honeymoon.

The resort sits on the edge of the Peninsula Papagayo, just an easy drive from the Guanacaste airport.  The resort sits in the hillside overlooking two beautiful beaches.  It was such a romantic destination and we were completely able to unplug and relax.

The entire hotel was recently renovated, including the beautiful open air lobby.  The staff welcomed us with Mango smoothies and cool towels. FPO_COS_824

The pool was one of our favorite afternoon spots.  We enjoyed cocktails and snacks while floating on rafts in the pool. The lounge beds were perfect for our afternoon naps.FPO_COS_825FPO_COS_822FPO_COS_823FPO_COS_865 FPO_COS_873

The culinary experience at the Four Seasons was once in a lifetime.  We enjoyed the freshest ingredients by award winning chefs.  The property has four restaurants with exceptional cuisine.

Sol Y Sombra: We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner at theLatin-inspired Rotisserie and Fish House.  My favorite was the made to order ceviche bar.

Cena Sociale: This was our favorite restaurant on the resort. Chef Dario Montelvere’s menu filled with homemade pastas, the freshest seafood and local ingredients to create an menu inspired by the Mediterranean and Amalfi Coast of Italy.  Must try: Grandma’s Homemade Lasagna (You will not be disappointed).

Caracol Steakhouse:  A traditional American steakhouse with incredible views.  The restaurant overlooks the Arnold Palmer Golf Course and is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset.

CR Burger Shack: After our bike ride and round of golf, we enjoyed burgers and hot dogs at the CR burger shack.  It was a fun Costa Rican take on the classic burger shack.  You must try the plantain fries.

The beautiful room and plunge pool in our villa.   FPO_COS_810 FPO_COS_892

Although our honeymoon is over (insert sad face emoji), I know we will be back at the Four Seasons Costa Rica sometime soon.  It was the most magical trip of our lives.

If you are looking for a honeymoon destination, I cannot recommend Costa Rica enough.  It was honestly the most Pura Vida experience.

We had the most romantic and memorable honeymoon at the Four Seasons Costa Rica. If we were not relaxing by the pool or in our honeymoon suite, we were soaking in all that Costa Rica and the Four Seasons had to offer.

The Activity Beach was so much fun.  We became friends with the staff the first day and had a blast trying all a bunch of new things.

  • Surf lessons
  • Kayaking
  • Standup Paddle Boarding (Day and Night. Nighttime boarding was my absolute favorite activity we did.  With lights on the bottom of the board you were able to see into the crystal clear water.  Fish jumped over the boards, turtles floated by and we had lots of laughs when people fell off their boards :)
  • Body surfing and boogie boarding

This was the one activity we knew we wanted to do when we arrived in Costa Rica. Our friends at the Four Seasons set up an a once in a lifetime experience for us at Witch’s Rock.  Only about a 20 min drive from the hotel, this was a must-do activity if you are on the Peninsula.  Since we were there at the beginning of the rainy season, we experienced a few showers. I honestly think it made our time more memorable. You will see in the pictures, the trees are lacking leaves.  This is because the time of year we were in Costa Rica. If you were to travel in Janurary or Feburary, the trees would be plush and full of color.  Typically, that is their high season for tourists in Costa Rica.  During our zip lining day trip, we met a few friends and spent the next few days enjoying cocktails together by the pool.

Let me note that no one go hurt in the process, however there might have been a few tears along the way.  After eating more than our share of food during our honeymoon, we (I mean me) decided we needed some exercise. I decided bike riding would be a fun thing to do and hopefully see a few white faced monkeys in the process.  Well, lets just say I haven’t been on a bike in a long time and this was definitely not a beginner’s ride. I may have stepped off my bike and pushed it a few hundred feet but we made it through and got to see some pretty neat things in the process including, lots of monkeys, iguana’s and beautiful private homes.  I even experienced my first time riding on the sand.  If you are planning a trip to the Four Seasons, my advice is to practice your bike riding skills before heading to Costa Rica (just kidding).

Just call me Caddy Schilling.  All jokes aside, this was one of the best days we had on our honeymoon.  It was the last day and Patrick decided he wanted to play golf.  I play, but not well enough to get through 18 holes on an Arnold Palmer championship designed course. Instead, I enjoyed a few cocktails and played caddy to my new husband.  Honestly, the views from the course were the best we had seen the entire trip.  Even if you don’t play golf, it is worth it to just see the views.

Some of our most relaxing days in Costa Rica were spent laying on hammocks watching the waves crash onto the beach.  The Four Seasons has three beaches: The Activity Beach, an Adult Beach and the Beach Club.  Since we were there for seven days, we decided to hit up the beach club for lunch and relax at the pool and on the beach until sunset.  The views from this beach are incredible and the white sand is beautiful!

The Four Seasons Costa Rica offered so many more activities that we will have to go back and experience.  Be sure to come back tomorrow to see the property and hear about our amazing culinary experience.

I have been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to share our honeymoon with all of you!  Be sure to head over to Style Me Pretty to see more photos and the story of our time at the Four Seasons Costa Rica.

Today I am sharing Part 1 of our Honeymoon at the Four Seasons Costa Rica.  We had the most unforgettable time on Peninsula Papagayo thanks to the Four Seasons team.  From the moment we arrived on solid ground in Costa Rica, the staff made us feel like rock stars.  We hopped in our car (fully equipped with wi-fi) for our 40 minute drive to the Peninsula.  Our driver showed us around the property on the way to the resort and even pulled off to take a picture of us at his favorite spot. When we pulled up to the resort we were greeted with mango smoothies and cool towels. The weather was hot, hot, hot!

We checked into our room and took a quick tour of the property before heading to lunch. Stay tuned for some of the property highlights tomorrow (imagine: outdoor hot and cold plunge in the spa over looking the ocean). The rest of our day we enjoyed relaxing on the beach, playing in the water and watching the sunset!

Each morning we slept in and then enjoyed coffee on our private outdoor space, fully equipped with a hammock and lounge bed. It was the perfect way to start the day.  After we took our time in the morning, we enjoyed a local breakfast at Sol y Sombra, featuring fresh Costa Rican ingredients.

Most of our days were spent relaxing by the 3 amazing pools or 3 beaches on the property. When we weren’t lounging, we filled the rest of our days with some fun activities. Stay tune for tomorrow because I will be sharing more pictures, our favorite activities and more about our experience on the peninsula that you do not want to miss!

The ceremony. During the wedding planning process, this was what I was looking forward to the most. It’s so easy to get caught up in the little details, the black hole that is Pinterest and comparing your wedding to those amazing styled shoots on Style Me Pretty.  But for me, I knew the ceremony was going to be my focus, because at the end of the day the flowers go away, the music stops and all you have left is the marriage.

It was a decision of ours to have our best friend officiate our wedding.  This was the easiest decision we made during the wedding process (and hiring Jen and Elyse were pretty easy (; ). So that handsome guy in the pictures above is our best friend, Phil.  Words cannot describe how much it meant to us for him to join us in marriage. It was such a personal experience that I will cherish forever and I am so lucky to have this memory. He has known the two of us as long as we have known eachother (7 years) and has been there through the great, the bad, the college days, the long-distance relationship, 3 moves, and now our marriage.  The ceremony was perfect (for us) and I am tearing up just thinking about how magical that moment was when I said ‘I do’ to my husband.

It’s all in the details…

Planning a wedding from another state can get tricky (read my tips on why to hire a wedding planner over on Style Me Pretty). Thankfully, I had an amazing wedding planner who kept me on track during the entire process.  From the venue to the flowers to the photography, Jen got my vision and made it come to life.  It was the little details that our photographer (and now friend), Elyse captured that I constantly find myself looking back at and smiling. The best part, instead of worrying about those little details the day of the wedding, all of our vendors allowed us to completely enjoy the entire day with family and friends.

Getting Ready-21-5335

When it came to finding “the dress,” I decided to keep a very open mind on our search. I had looked at dresses online, pinned a few I thought I would love but when I tried on this Monique Lhuillier gown, I knew it was the one.  Layers upon layers of soft tulle and chantilly lace lined with silk charmeuse, it felt like heaven wearing this dress.  I wore a cathedral length veil for the ceremony for a little added drama.  Getting Ready-05-5004 GettingReady-04-9700 GettingReady-22-000060380010

Details included these garters, bracelets, Jenny Packham earrings and these Stuart Weitzman heels (I actually wore them *almost the entire night!) My darling Mrs. Box held our wedding rings and made for the prettiest detail shots.  Getting Ready-23-000060550001 Getting Ready-30-0025 Getting Ready-30-9999

It was that moment where time stood still…

Walking up to see my husband-to-be for the first time was the actual moment it started to feel real.  All day I had a giddy feeling inside, but that moment I felt still, happy, and like nothing else mattered.  We were together and it was going to officially be forever.

Tomorrow is all about the Details…stay tuned.
