If you take peek into my closet, you would notice a sea of solid colors.  It’s not that I don’t like pattern, but lately I have been focusing on investment pieces.  To me those investment pieces are a perfect white blazer, super soft tees, killer heels, and a lust-worthy handbag; items that can be paired together and worn all of the time. I have started to build up a wardrobe I enjoy looking at everyday. With that said, I knew I was missing something in my closet. Pattern and texture are the perfect additions to a classic wardrobe. Rather than investing in trendy styles, I stuck with a classic silhouette. I liked these Equipment tops so much, I bought three of them; two patterns and one solid. These shirts can be worn on a night out with friends, to work with a pencil skirt, or even with a pair of jean shorts. The silk makes it dressier than just a normal tee, but still casual enough to throw on with a pair of gladiator sandals for a put together day-look. Is there something you feel you are missing from your closet?

I finally found a pair of boyfriend jeans that fit. I have been searching for over a year to find a pair that don’t look like mom jeans.  Being petite, it is so difficult to find that perfect pair of distressed denim (read: bad knee hole placement). These Citizens of Humanity jeans have kind of changed my life.  Well, at least in terms of getting dressed everyday.  I have been pairing them with heels, flats, and my current favorite sandals.

Did you guys notice that killer bracelet and stacked rings I have been wearing? Last week, the folks at Szor let me come and play dress up for the day in their Dallas store. If you are in the DFW area you must stop by their shop on Preston- you will not be dissapointed. They have an amazing collection of unique designers and one-of-a-kind pieces. The Szor’s are not only welcoming but extremely knowledgable about every designer and piece of jewelry they carry in their store.

For me, there is nothing like a warm, sunny day.

My mood is completely affected by the weather, maybe it has something to do with growing up in a state where I was completely spoiled by Mother Nature.  As I get older, the more conscious I am about my skin.  I will be honest, never in a million years did I think I would say that. I am fortunate to have olive skin and spent most of my childhood outside in the sun. What I never realized is how it would affect me today.  I can’t reverse what I did to my skin back then, but I definitely can make a better effort to protect it now and hopefully save it from those sun spots and wrinkles later in life.

Wondering why I am bringing up skincare? Well, this amazing dress is actually made with UPF 50 (Yep, you heard me right, it contains ultraviolet protection factor). When I found out about Mott 50, a brand of stylish sun protective clothing, I knew I needed to learn more about the company.  I knew sun protective clothing existed, but I always thought they were just made for the beach, like rash guards and ugly board shorts. So, when I found cute, high quality clothes that protected my skin and would actually wear, I knew this brand was a winner in my book.

So, while I am hopping around town in my cute striped dress, I can feel good about protecting my skin at the same time. See, it’s a win win.

Growing up in the desert certainly had its perks. Wearing sandals year round  and never owning a real winter coat were just a few of the advantages. When the summer months hit my wardrobe always shifted from jeans to light-as-a-feather dresses (you know, the ones that barely touch your body because it is so unbearably hot). Finding those effortless pieces to add to your closet can be a little bit of a struggle, well that is until my friend Catherine decided to open her new shop, Pepper.  Pepper is a perfectly curated store in the heart of downtown Scottsdale.

Catherine and I have known each other for over 10 years. I remember the day she showed up at cheer practice. She was one of those girls who just screamed cool and I always envied her boho chic style. Years past, and Catherine went onto college at ASU and then headed to LA for her masters.  While she was there she worked for Rachel Pally, and then ventured into the wholesale division at Free People and Alternative Apparel.  But back to this year, she decided it was finally time to start her own store.  A collection of all of her favorite brands in one place.

You guys know, I do not really give off that boho chic vibe. I always dream of pulling off that look, so when Catherine introduced me to her new shop a few months ago, I was so excited to fill my closet with a few essential pieces. I am kind of obsessed with this Free People dress, which it is perfect for the hot summer months. Their website has a great selection of Free People, Line and Dot, Alternative Apparel basics, and MinkPink. I have been stalking the website for their new arrivals everyday and I am already planning to buy this hat and this romper.

Because the gals over at Pepper are so great, they are offering all A Dash of Details readers 25% off everything in the webstore by using the code: ADASHOFDETAILS. Happy Shopping!

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”- Socrates

It has now been three months since we moved to Dallas, and to say I am not completely head over heels with this city would be a lie. Shopping, great food, and amazing friends have left me feeling full. I found myself focusing most of my time off of my phone and computer  (minus, the countless hours of work) without reason.

For the last two weeks, I went back and fourth about calling it quits, but every time the thought came into my mind I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I still felt like there was something missing.  The more I sat on the idea, the more I came to the realization that A Dash of Details is my passion. It is something I wake up in the morning for, and it is something I could spend countless hours on (even if only 2 people are reading my letters everyday).  Never in a million years did I think this blog would give me so much joy and an outlet for all of the things I love.  The funny thing is I was never much of a writer growing up, but sitting down at my computer screen everyday, thoughts just spill out onto the pages.  This space has always been about what I love, who I am and all the little details in between.

While I don’t know where I am going just yet, I am focusing on building the new rather than focusing my energy on where I was.   So, in case you missed me, I am back and ready to spill my heart out onto these pages again.

It has been almost 2 months since we packed up and moved to Dallas and we have been exploring our new city ever since that day.  We have yet to try the same restaurant twice, but there are a few things that are starting to make this city feel like home. Coffee and running outside are two of those things for me.  My favorite coffee shop is right by our house and has the most delicious homemade almond milk latte. Oh, and did I mention it has a perfectly curated selection of some of my favorite brands and coffee table books.  As of late, my morning routine consists of a pit stop for coffee before sitting down to work at my desk. This has made it easier to get up and get dressed in the mornings. One of my favorites recently is an easy white linen tee, white denim and a light weight scarf.  Shawl Smith London has some of my new favorites, like this one and this one.  They are perfect for throwing on over a summer dress or a casual white tee for a pop of color.  Thanks to my friends at Shawl Smith London, they are offering all A Dash of Details readers 25% off your order by using the code: SSL25. Wedding Season is upon us and I could not be more excited.

Being at the age where at every turn someone is either getting engaged or has a wedding on the horizon, I am always on the lookout for that perfect dress. Finding a long dress that doesn’t look like your a bridesmaid, or doesn’t cost you thousand of dollars can be tough, so when I found this silk number at Club Monaco, I knew I had to have it.  Being neutral, this dress can be dressed up for a black tie affair with some heeled sandals and a slick back ponytail or dressed down for something more casual (think: beach wedding).

If you look closely at my wrist you will notice a gold bracelet. At first glance it will appear to be an ordinary gold cuff, but it really it is much more than just your average bracelet. With Mother’s Day, less than a month away, I am always on the lookout for meaningful gifts. I always struggle with finding that “perfect” gift for my mom and normally end up giving her this candle or a picture frame (these are both rated a 10 on the lame gift scale). This year, I decided to start early in my search for the best Mother’s Day gift to date.  If you have never heard of Uncommon Goods, you will now.  It is one of my best kept secrets.  You can find anything from chalkboard cheese board to handmade jewelry.  After a quick search on the site, I found this Astrology bracelet and knew this was the gift.  Since my mom and I do not live in the same place, I thought it would be fun to give her my astrology sign bracelet, and I would get one of hers (okay, it was actually just a great idea so I could get myself I cute, new bracelet too). But, every time she looked down, she would know she had a little piece of me with her.

Give me stripes and I am all set.

When I am in a wardrobe slump and can’t seem to find anything to wear, I always fall back into a trusty routine. And for me, that is a classic stripe tee. One may say I have a slight addiction to those horizontal lines, but I just say, I know what I like.  This past weekend, the temps were in the upper 70’s so I decided to pull out my favorite staples, my Baldwin denim cutoffs and trusty Saint James stripe tee, for a few errands.

To me, Saint James is a brand that screams classic, chic. The company started in the 19th century and is still going strong today with the same design, so really I am not sure if there is anything more classic than that.  Thanks to Tuckernuck for introducing me to my new obsession, I am now going to need a Saint James tee in every color combo. Next up the classic, blue and white stripe.

I wish I could come up with a good April Fools for you.

Growing up, my dad always woke me up with the best April Fools Day prank that would have me going all day.  Maybe it is because his birthday is tomorrow, but he is a jokester through and through.  April 1st means spring cleaning and swapping my closet from sweaters to cute tops and dresses.  Whenever the seasons change, I am drawn back to the basics in my closet.  White tops are key for Spring, which probably has something to do with the obscene amount of black that I sport in the winter (maybe its a sign of season depression or something). But really back to this amazing peplum from Tuckernuck, doesn’t it just scream Spring? I paired it with some Paige distressed skinnies for date night to celebrate Patrick and I’s first date anniversary (I guess we are cheesy like that).

Have y’all heard of Tuckernuck? If you haven’t you need to hop on over to their site right now.  It is an online shop that is carefully curated with the top brands that represent the classic lifestyle.  Just think Saint James Tops, Daniel Wellington Watches, and lots of Loren Hope jewels.  As of late, it has been my go-to shop when I am looking for classic pieces to add to my Spring wardrobe.
