When we started our trip from Dallas to Nantucket on the last day of June, I jotted down a few bucket list of items we wanted to check off before leaving the island. Mackenzie and her family have been coming to the island since the 1880s–well, not specifically Mackenzie, but we knew we were in good hands. The list was pretty short because I knew we would add things to our list as the month progressed.
I know I should have probably shared the bucket list before we arrived on the island, but we have had too much fun checking things off our list that I completely forgot! Here is the complete list:
NANTUCKET BUCKET LIST
Visit at least 6 different beaches: We succeeded our goal and made it to Surfside, Steps, ‘Sconset, 40th Pole, Brant Point, Nobadeer, Madaket, Ladies, Cisco, Jetties, Galley, Great Point, and Sesachacha Pound with the pups!
Have a bonfire on the beach: My best friend, Elyse was in town for a few days and we made a late night bonfire on the beach!
Watch the sunset on the beach: On Tuesday, we headed out to Madaket for Dinner at Millies and then walked down to the beach to enjoy the sunset
Drive to Great Point Lighthouse to watch the sunrise: The 4am wake up call was worth everything (can’t wait to share some of the photos!)
Go for a morning swim in the ocean: On the coldest morning of the month, Patrick, Mackenzie and myself hopped in the car and ran into the water. I felt like I was doing the Polar Plunge but it was such an invigorating way to wake up!
Explore each end of the island: We finally checked this off yesterday at Great Point.
Have a picnic at Brant Point Lighthouse: On Monday, we grabbed sushi takeout and watched the sunset on the beach.
Go sailing: The last few years, Mackenzie has booked the Endeavor for a big group of us! We always bring rosé, bread and cheese and it has always been a highlight of the trip. This year we went sailing with the Southern Tide team and had the best time (even with a few sprinkles of rain!)
There are a few others on the list and a few we still have yet to complete, but needless to say, we have had a summer for the books!
I am forever grateful to have such a wonderful friend with an incredibly welcoming family that allowed us to be their housemates for the summer of a lifetime.
