Wednesdays are normally my jam. Thanks to Patrick’s weekly 6am flight to Denver (talk about brownie points for my airport services) I can typically work out, finish my blog post, and eat breakfast all before 7am. Today, was a different story. Instead of following my favorite day routine, I pulled the covers back over my head and didn’t set my alarm. Are you wondering why I am telling you this?

Today, I needed a little pick me up. So, here is a little food for thought, because life is too short to have bad days.

I am easing back into the week after our fun holiday weekend! I definitely ate, drank and laughed my way through the ultimate Texas holiday weekend at our families Ranch. It was so hard to wake up this morning and realize it is time to get back to work and working out. Over-indulging was the word of the weekend. *This girl loves her dips and hotdogs.

So let’s talk about my favorite outfit now. White on white is my go-to in the summer for easy dressing. Throw on a flowy top, white shorts or jeans and you look effortlessly put-together. This white tunic from Anthropologie has been on major repeat. For petite girls, it is the perfect casual top without looking too oversized. Add a little gold jewelry and you can walk out the door in a second.

Did you guys do any sale shopping this weekend? I picked up a few things from Anthropologie (SALEAWAY) and J.Crew (LONGWEEKEND) and this dress from Reformation for an upcoming trip.

This Valentine’s Day was one for the books. Not in a romantic getaway kind of way like the Mr. has done in the past, but instead yesterday we spent the day exploring all over Arizona shooting for our next SMP feature (a blogger girls dream). There will be lots more to come on that in a few weeks, but in the meantime if you can’t wait there is a sneak peek over on my Instagram.

While my friends in the Northeast are freezing their booties off this weekend (and still today), Patrick and I were enjoying 75 degrees and sunny. Definitely no complaints here. I even pulled out my shorts (and scary white legs). If you are a regular here, you notice I wear a lot of jeans. When I am not working from my home office in my Lululemon pants and a sweatshirt, my office attire is still casual. Stocking up on good jeans is essential. I am normally a designer jeans kind of girl but the other day I made a stop into the Gap to look at their denim and tried on their new Resolution skinnies. Guys, they are so comfortable and for any of you petites out there, they don’t need to be hemmed. That is really any short girls’ dream.

Do you ever wish you had a couple hundred elves helping you get through during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season?

This time of the year always seems to creep up faster and I am always feeling like I have to play catch up the week before Thanksgiving. I have been furiously working on a special Gift Guide this year that I cannot wait to share. It was planned for today but I had a minor set back when my computer froze and I lost the entire document has put me a little behind-don’t you just hate when that happens…note to self: save, save, save.

This weekend I got into the Holiday spirit with a little Christmas card photoshoot for one of my newlywed besties, a stop into the Christmas pop-up shops at some of my favorite stores, and had drinks and laughs with a few friends by the fire at Savor. You can feel that Holiday spirit all over town and it makes me so giddy.

The busy weekend definitely has me craving multiple cups of coffee and a warm blanket to work under today.

COZY VEST

This Dallas weather is throwing me for quite the loop. Last week it was in the 80’s and today the 30’s. Being this is our first winter in Texas, I have been going through my closet trying to make some room for pieces I know will be in constant rotation throughout these mild (or so I thought) winter months. One of my favorite trends, as of late, is the oversized vest-coat. I picked up this Theory vest a few weeks ago and have since become obsessed. I have been wearing it everywhere this week; to the grocery store, out to lunch, and even on date night. Pretty much the perfect thing to throw on over any outfit.

I also might be late to the game, but I just recently found a new love for J.Crew denim. Talk about fitting like a glove, these black jeans are a new favorite of mine. They have the perfect amount of stretch, but don’t give you saggy knees (I hope you know what I am talking about) by the end of the day. The best part is everything is 25% off right now, so it’s even a better reason to buy them in every color.

ELLEN DRESS TWO WAYS

You have heard it time and again, but there really is nothing more classic than a Little Black Dress.

In this case, a LBD that can be worn for a night out or to run errands makes for an A+ in my book. While I was in New York, I told you I popped into OTTE in Nolita. Other than the fact I wanted to move into the cozy store and make all of the goodies inside my own, I decided to focus on finding a classic piece that I could bring home with me. For some time I have been lusting over the Ellen Dress because of its unique, but oh so classic silhouette. As I was shuffling through the perfectly organized racks, I came across the one; a black xs. It was meant to be. Let’s just say, I now want the Ellen Dress in every color and pattern.

Other than the fact that I wanted to walk out of the store in my new dress (that might have been a little embarrassing), I did wear it the very next day for my last Fashion Week shows and meeting, then again on the airplane with a crop sweater and these shoes, then again when I got back to Dallas for date night with Patrick. Other than my obsession with the Ellen Dress, other Otte Signature pieces are high on my wish list like; this amazing fur vest, the Sylvia Pebble Top, the Jackie Dress, this hat, and this sweater.

If I could pick my favorite moment from NYFW it would be my first steps into the J.Crew Presentation. Accidentally bumping into Bill Cunningham as I made my way through the doors was just the icing on the cake.

Being what some people (aka my fiancé) call a J.Crew addict, this was definitely something to cross off my bucket list. Honestly I was in awe the second I stepped into the room. Beautiful people wearing J.Crew effortlessly, models that were pulled directly out of the catalogue and too many celebrities to count. Once I snapped out of what I thought was a dream I made my way around the room to check out the collection. Then again with my phone to snap a few Instagrams (I mean what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t get the best iPhone pic possible). Don’t laugh, but then I went around a third time to check out the details. Metallic oversized clutches, sequin appliqués, and lucite colored sunglasses; the details are what made this collection my absolute favorite. As I was making my way back to my favorite dress of the collection again, Jenna Lyons was standing there finishing up an interview when the famous blue jacketed man approaches to give her a kiss kiss on the cheek and take a selfie. Seriously, DAY MADE.

Since I can’t buy that yellow sequin dress quite yet, I decided to browse the J.Crew Fall Collection instead. Let’s just say I want everything while I wait…

THE MIA STORY

You may have noticed I took a little unexpected break from the blog for the last two weeks. This was never my intention and I had this weird guilt as the days went by and I didn’t post anything. The real story was that my day job took us on quite the interesting adventure. Many of you probably don’t know what I do, so here’s the quick story. I’ll be back Monday with regular content and some exciting news!

Two Thursdays ago, my fiancé and I hopped on a plane and headed to Scottsdale for a quick weekend getaway (or so we thought) to celebrate my birthday. We had a great weekend and then got news we would be working on a quick 5 day project in a small town in Mississippi. So if you don’t know, Patrick and I work together for an oil and gas company, a job I absolutely love and everyday am grateful to have found something that I like to do and also have the flexibility to work from home, blog, and still have a life.

We arrived is Mississippi 2 Sundays ago, for what we thought would be a quick and painless trip with a few pitstops to Oxford and New Orleans on the way home, but we were SOO wrong. We worked until midnight every night and on top of everything we had no internet the entire time (hence no blogging). After a few long nights, the project was extended an entire week. More work, late nights and few pieces of fried chicken later, we finally completed our project and made it to New Orleans for a night and then back to Dallas for the weekend, just in time for my bestie to come visit me. ROUTINE: a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.

I have always been a routine kind of girl. Maybe it had something to do with growing up at the Dance Studio with a strict daily schedule, but for my entire life I have always had a routine. As I get older, I continue to fall into the daily routines. My morning routine is the same everyday. Wake up around 7am, shower and brush my teeth, make a cup of coffee, and sit down at my computer until the end of the work day; a pretty typical adult routine. After a long weekend falling back into a good routine is always tough for me. A weekend full of little sleep, lots of eating and drinking, and not having a schedule is always good for the soul, but when Monday creeps up; my mind just wants to fall back into a life with little-to-no plans. So today, was a two cup of coffee kind of morning to get me back into the swing of things.

When it comes to my closet, I fall into a similar routine in the summer months. Four basic outfits get me through, and everything else in my closet seems to get pushed to the back. White dresses, grey tees, denim shorts, and a lot of black and white are my go-to’s especially when I struggle to find something new to wear. You know, those days when you want to get creative with your closet, but nothing seems to work….Black and white is always a good idea.
