I am already on my 3rd shot of espresso this morning and it is not even 10am. Let’s just say, I am coming down from an ultimate high from this weekend’s celebrations. Thanks to my awesome friends, family and fiance, this was a birthday for the record books. They definitely know how to make a girl feel special, even if it was only my 26th birthday.
Thanks to my dad and all of his life lessons throughout the years(or he what he calls his “pearls of wisdom”) I decided the best way to start my next year of life, was to look back at some of the things I have learned and accomplished in the last 25 years.
1. Be respectful (always)
2. SAVE, SAVE, SAVE (it’s better to be wealthy than rich)
3. Love unconditionally (and except nothing in return)
4. Be genuine in everything you do
5. Honesty is always the best policy (even if it doesn’t feel right at the time)
6. Family comes first
7. Play hard, work harder
8. Success does not come easy
9. Find happiness in the unexpected
10. Wake up everyday with a smile
11. Be grateful for everything you have (even if it doesn’t feel like a lot at the time)
12. Never stop learning
13. Be passionate
14. Find great friends (not just good ones)
15. Speak your mind (communication is key)
16. Always strive for perfect
17. Never settle
18. Treat yourself after a great accomplishment (or just because you deserve it!)
19. Be compassionate
20. Set goals and surpass your goals
21. Do something you love everyday and it will never feel like work a day in your life (this is one of the most important lessons my dad taught me and why I continue to write A Dash of Details everyday)
22. Find someone who makes you a better version of yourself
23. Do something that fulfills you everyday
24. Own up to your mistakes
25. Take care of yourself
26. Have the best day every, everyday (thanks to my friend Blair, this has been my favorite daily mantra)
