LOVE YOU, FRIDAY

It honestly doesn’t even feel like Friday today,  but I am definitely wishing I was outside instead of at my desk.  Lets talk about 70 degree weather, this is my heaven.  Although today may be an anomoly, I am super excited to start the weekend off with a few drinks on a patio and watching some basketball.  I will be sporting my Crimson and Blue all weekend and cheering on my Jayhawks, and maybe even drink some green beer in honor of St. Pat’s Day (side note: tomorrow is Patrick’s favorite day of the year…can you guess why?) Hope ya’ll have a Happy Weekend!

MARCH

There are so many things I love about March; the first day of Spring, March Madness (this town goes crazy for basketball), and all of the new Spring 2013 looks in the stores.  The one thing I am not totally loving right now is all of this snow on the ground, I am completely over winter and the cold and I am so ready to not have to throw on a coat and boots every time I walk outside.

So anyways, back to the part about all of the things I love about this month.  First off, is anyone headed to Austin for SXSW?  I am trying to get out there for two reasons, one being my cousin just asked me to be her maid of honor in her wedding (insert screams of joy here), and two I want to see some of those amazing spur of the moment collaborations that happen all week.  Another love I have for March is the new spring lines in all of my favorite stores.  All of the pastels and sailor stripes are out of control. Have you seen the new floral prints at J Crew, um yes please. That print brings me back to the late 90’s when I rocked the peasant sleeve and matching capris.  I could never leave out March Madness from the mix, it may be one of my favorite times of the year, that could have something to do with the Jayhawks and hopefully them being a number one seed in the tournament.  What are your favorite things about March?

SUNDAY SOUNDTRACK

Tonight, it was only appropriate to add Adele’s original song, Skyfall to the mix of Sunday Soundtracks.  Her live performance of the James Bond original was killer, and her acceptance speech was flawless.

A Dining Debacle

This weekend I am so exciting because Patrick and I are finally pulling the trigger on a couch and dining chairs.  (to explain- we have not had a couch since we moved in, and I am over the moon that we finally made a decision).  We are getting this Restoration Hardware sofa and it was well worth the wait.  Not only is it totally comfortable (we can both lay down at the same time and watch tv), but it looks good too.

Next order of business are chairs for the dining room.  I am not sure if I told ya’ll, but Patrick is pretty amazingly talented and built us our very own farmhouse table. It looks pretty perfect for the space and for Christmas he got me two lucite arm chairs.  We went back and forth if we should go with all lucite, or mix and match.  I want my home to be liveable, and cozy but also to look good.  So we decided against all lucite.  So then I was thinking that I wanted white upholstered chairs, like in picture number one,  but I know that my sweet puppies will totally ruin them with their muddy paws, so here comes the debacle.  Do we go with white/cream slipcovers or go in a totally different direction?  I need all of the opinions I can get, so start sharing (pretty please and thank you!)

Sadness

Degas Little Dancer

In lieu of everything that recently happened and all of the news and media surrounding this tragedy, I have had a very hard time posting gift guides or cookie party recipes.  I want A Dash of Details to be something light-hearted and an enjoyable escape from daily life, but I also always want to be authentic.  For the last few days my heart has been filled with sadness for all of the innocent children and their families from the Sandy Hook Elementary School.  As this probably affected all of you in a different way, this terrible incident hit very close especially since my little brother is only in the 3rd grade.  I have had a hard time putting into words how I feel and today my sweet friend sent me an email and I thought I would share with you all.

“Twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate. Their smiles were contagious; their laughter filled the air, ……they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy; they didn’t know what to say, they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. “Where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. “This is heaven.” declared a small boy, “We’re spending Christmas at God’s house.” When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same, then He opened His arms and He called them by name. And in that moment was joy that only heaven can bring those children all flew into the arms of their King As they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face. As if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.” Then He looked down on earth, the world far below, He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe. Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, “Let My power and presence re-enter this land!” “May this country be delivered from the hands of fools”, “I’m taking back my nation, I’m taking back my schools!” Then He and the children stood up without a sound, “Come now my children, let me show you around.” Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran, all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, “In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT “

For any of you that are not from the area, Feng is a great boutique filled with brands like Tory Burch, Joie, J Brand and much more.  The recently moved and opened a new flagship store at the Shops at 119.  The store is beautiful down to the very last details, like the lucite handles on it’s perfectly laquared bright orange doors. Let’s just say they did not miss a beat. The night included endless specialty cocktails, the perfect finger foods, and a fabulous fashion show to end the night.

Ground Running

So remember last week when I said I was going to be back last week… well, things have turned out slightly different than planned.

Let me start by telling ya’ll how greatful I am for all of the exciting changes that have been going on, but it has caused me to neglect A Dash of Details for the last week and I miss blogging everyday  All trivial things, but moving while having a full time job, finding furniture for an entire home, packing up, and getting ready to leave for Thanksgiving to a place without phone or internet service, has been slightly overwhelming.  Of course, all of these are good things and I honestly cannot (or shouldn’t) complain because I am so lucky and thankful for all of the great things that have been happening in my life. So bear with me for the next week and I promise there are lots of exciting changes and new topics that will be popping up on the blog.

Time Flies

When your having fun.

My trip to Arizona was fabulous and went by in a flash. I watched a few Little League Baseball games, enjoyed a great dinner with my besties at The House, a new restaurant in Downtown Scottsdale, a quick, last minute Halloween costume for some kid friendly trick or treating and the best part, spending time with my family (I forget how much I miss seeing them everyday).

Home for only a few short days, the hours involved antique shopping in the West Bottoms, art gallery hopping during First Fridays and some down time on the couch. I jumped back on the plane and jet- setted to Vegas for a work trip.  Let’s just say what happens in Vegas comes back with you in the form of a cold.

Anywho… I am back.

What A Rollercoaster

July has been one crazy ride and my roller coaster is finally coming to a stop (well at least a week break). This month has been filled with some high high’s and low low’s and It just makes you realize how life works in mysterious ways. I am excited to be taking the week off of “real” work and going home to spend time with friends and family. I am exited to play around with my (Patrick’s Christmas gift) camera, swim in the pool, happy hours with the girlies, and lots of time with my little bro and family. Hope ya’ll had a fabulous weekend.
