I spent the last five days taking an unintentional digital detox…the results: it was good for the soul.

We left for Scottsdale on Saturday morning and until today, I spent a good portion of my days unplugged. Coupled with the fact I was surrounded by some of my favorite people on this planet, not being tied to my phone, I felt completely relaxed, for the first time in a long time.  We (I’m using the royal “we”) spend so much time glued to our phones, scrolling through Instagram, responding to emails, what have you, that it is so easy to lose sight of the importance of quality time.

Here are a few tips I have learned to help unplug:

Leave your phone in your bag. While you might feel like you are missing a limb at first, I promise the longer you are without your phone, the less you miss it! I ended up not even having to charge my phone all weekend (this never happens!)

Keep your phone on the charger on the opposite side of the room. Anyone else guilty of this? In the morning the first thing I do is open Instagram. I end up spending thirty minutes laying in bed looking at everyone else’s life, rather than enjoying my own.

Spend quality time with friends and family. Maybe it is just me, but my cup is overflowing after spending a weekend with my loved ones.  These people feed my soul in the best way possible.

Do something you love, offline. In this world where “if you don’t Instagram, did it ever happen?” era, we are consumed with making our lives look perfect (I am a guilty party). Lately, I have been trying to live in the moment rather than feeling the need to share every incredible dinner, day spent at the pool or beautiful hike. I have found that spending more time taking photos just for the sake of taking photos has brought me so much joy. Most of the time, I love to share with you all, but I am no longer consumed with the idea of having to share every minute of everyday.

Realize that no one is perfect. In a world where we are surrounded by beautiful images of people’s ‘perfect’ lives, remember no one’s life is perfect. If you every get that feeling when scrolling through Instagram that your life isn’t as glamorous, pretty or beautiful as someone else, STOP, Take a deep breath, put your phone down, and go do something. Your life is as wonderful as you make it.

On a lighter note, this shirt dress is a current favorite for those hot summer days and nights!
