Mark D. Sikes

What is the color combination that comes to mind when you think of classic, timeless style?  For me, it has and will always be blue and white.  Whether it is the perfect shirting stripe, ticking stripe or solid linen, the combo of blue and white will forever be my favorite in my closet and in my home.  Mark D. Sikes, an interior and clothing designer has captured the essence of blue and white in his new book Beautiful and his line, MDS Stripes. Lets just say, so long paycheck, hello cute stripes.

Zara Jeans

We are spending the weekend at home in Dallas and I could not be more excited to sleep in, have breakfast in bed and take the pups for a long walk. While I love traveling, there is something so wonderful about spending a few weekends in a row at home. Since this is the first weekend in a stretch of weekends we will be spending in Dallas, I decided it is the perfect excuse to clean out and organize my closet. While I won’t be switching out my closet to Fall/Winter clothes just yet, it is a great time to go through all of my summer clothes that I haven’t worn all season and say goodbye. With a relaxing weekend comes the comfiest of clothes.  I know I will be wearing these jeans all weekend long when I finally decide to get out of my favorite pj set.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of vintage Levi’s for the last year and I still haven’t found “the pair”.  I was at Zara a few weekends ago and found this pair and knew they would be a great alternative until I find the Levi’s of my dreams (ha, jk).

18th and Vine Barbeque

After living in Dallas for the last two and a half years, I decided it was time to start sharing a few of my favorite places in the city I call home.  So, when Draper James asked me to explore my city to create their Dallas City Guide, I could not have been more excited.  First up on their list was the top barbecue spots in town.  Although I am still partial to Kansas City BBQ (oops, don’t tell!), Dallas has been whipping up some of the best barbecue in Texas.  So, after trying endless restaurants on our ever-growing list, I narrowed it down to my top 3.

This weekend is exactly what I needed.

My mom booked a last minute trip to Dallas and it was just what the doctor ordered.  We spent lots of time catching up, enjoying some great food and of course, a little retail therapy. Because for me, there is nothing better than shopping with my mom.  I am definitely missing her today, but hopefully will be booking a flight home very soon!

While we were shopping I noticed a trend at some of our favorite shops: 90s denim and I’m into it. The high waisted, wide leg jeans are made for the weekends. And if you know me, there is nothing I love more than weekend wear.

We are headed out to the ranch to celebrate the unofficial start to Fall and football season this Labor Day weekend.  If I wasn’t planning on wearing my cutoffs and booties all weekend, I would be wearing one of these outfits.

Amy, Mackenzie, Riley and I on Nantucket

We’re going to get real today, okay? I am completely guilty of skimming over those real life details on the blog and replacing them with pretty pictures and things.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE those pretty things, but every once in a while I feel like I want to get real with all of you.  I mean, I am still a girl in her 20s trying to figure it all out. Today I’m talking all about friendship.

White Shirt Dress at Ice Cream Shop

Do you ever get the Monday blues after a really fun weekend? Today, I am feeling like I wish we had one more day to relax before the week gets started.  My weekend kicked off with a fun girl date with Mackenzie downtown with a little gelato (for her), iced coffee (for me), and lots of laughs.

We’re moving!

If you have been reading this blog since 2010, you may have noticed by now we have moved A LOT in the last 5 years. After working out alot of details that I won’t bore you with, we found a house and are moving! Thankfully, this time we are only moving 10 minutes down the road.  We are so excited for our new place, and to finally feel settled and to make Dallas feel like home.

We officially get the keys on Sunday, so in the meantime I will be packing up all of our odds and ends and you will have to wait for pictures.

Stay tuned for lots of home and design inspiration headed your way. I have been pinning ideas for the last two years so to say I am excited to see plan to come to life is an understatement.

This time of the year can get pretty hectic and with only 10 days left until Christmas, the hustle and bustle in this city is electric.  I have said it before, but I just love this time of year that we decided to start a new tradition. My mom and aunt came to visit Dallas for a weekend full of shopping, wine and a great time! You know the saying, shop until you drop; well that was us.  I think we hit almost every shopping district in this city.  We took a few breaks for bubbly, Diet Cokes and a little fuel to get us through the days.  In addition to checking off everyone on our nice list, we decided it would be fun to find a few things for ourselves along the way.  My mom and aunt found these adorable over the knee boots while I lusted over these classic Stuart Weiztman OTK boots.

Off topic, but do you live in the same town as your parents? Sometimes I wish my parents lived down the street.  It was so fun to have my very special house guests this past week/weekend. If I wasn’t going to see them in less than a week, I think I would be having some major Wednesday Blues (thats a thing, right?).

After recently discovering Clinique’s new Chubby Mascara, I knew I wanted to test out more of what Clinique had to offer.  After hearing about their new Smart skincare line, I ran over to Nordstrom to purchase a bottle of the serum (Let’s just say I am a little obsessed).  To make my trip even better, I was able to discover some new must-have products thanks to Nordstrom’s Bonus Gift with Purchase event.  The cosmetic bag was filled with the some of Clinque’s top selling products for me to try.

The Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20Rinse-Off Eye Makeup Solvent, and Mild Liquid Facial Soap are the classics when it comes to taking care of your skin. It was nice to try all three of these products and decide what to purchase and what would end up sitting on my shelf.  To be honest, all three of these products are now on the top of my wish list.

When it comes to makeup, I am a tried and true kind of girl.  I keep my makeup regimen pretty simple, so when I find a product I love I stick with it.  I love that I was able to try the Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Beauty and Chubby Stick Cheek Color Balm in Roly Poly Rosy. The Chubby Stick is a total game changer. Blush is one of my daily must-haves and this product has changed the game.  The cream stick has long lasting powers and the color happened to be perfect for my skin tone.

My beauty discovery all started with the Chubby Lash mascara, so being able to test out some of Clinique’s top shadows and dual mascara was something I was excited to find in my Gift with Purchase.  I have never been great with eyeshadow but this neutral color pallet is great for everyday looks.

I am so excited I was able to discover so many new products thanks to the Nordstrom event.  For all you Dallas gals, be sure to head to Nordstrom Northpark to pick up your Gift with Purchase. Hurry these great products will only be available until supplies last.
