It’s been a while since I have done a life update, so without further adieu…

Last week my friend Mackenzie hosted a pop-up shop at her office.  She has the best hostess gifts and I am obsessed with these matches.

The Royals are headed to the World Series tomorrow and we could not be more excited.  We made a few last minute trips to Kansas City last two weekends to watch the boys in blue play their hearts out.  If you are looking for fun sporting/game day shirts, I love Charlie Hustle Shop.

Speaking of Kansas City, there is a new barbecue restaurant in Dallas called 18th and Vine. It was soo good.

Thankfully, it is finally cooling down in Dallas.  I hate to say it but I am officially over 90 degrees. I have been eyeing all of the sweaters at J.Crew.  They are even having 25% off full price items…YES PLEASE.

Yesterday marked six months since our wedding day.  We have been on the best adventure so far and I know it is just the beginning.  In case you missed it, our wedding was on Style Me Pretty.  Even six months later, this was still the best day of our lives.

Hope you have a great Monday!

You may have noticed the lack of home or interior posts on A Dash of Details as of late.  When we moved to Dallas, I decided I would just use what we had and make it work since we are currently renting and saving our pennies for a house of our own. We knew we would only be here for 2 years and I didn’t want to buy something that might not work in a new place. Was it the smart idea? Probably, but I have a serious itch to make this house really feel like home. Maybe it is all of Mackenzie’s talk about her One Room Challenge or just that time of the year when things start to slow down and we are spending more time at home but all I know is I want all of the things.

One of those things is a bar cart.  If you remember our dining room (see our old house tour here), we have a set of lucite chairs at our kitchen table.  The lucite bar cart would compliment them perfectly and will never go out of style.

Here are a few favorites for the perfectly stocked bar cart:

Today I was supposed to be on the sitting on the sandy beaches in San Diego with my best girlfriends but due to some scheduling mishaps we had to reschedule our girls weekend. While, I am sad I won’t be spending time with my favorite girlies, I am excited to enjoy a casual weekend in Dallas. The only thing that would make it better is if we had a pool!

Happy Weekend loves!

Home updates, you ask?

Many of you have been emailing and asking why I haven’t posted pictures of our new house in Dallas yet. To be honest, its not finished and not really a work in progress either.  You see, when we moved to Dallas we rented a house because of the quickness of our move. Don’t get me wrong I actually love renting, I love our house and the neighborhood we live in but honestly I have zero motivation when it comes to buying or designing any pieces for this place.  With the idea of buying our first home in the back of my mind, I decided I would rather save my money than fill this space with pieces that fit right now. Thankfully, all of our furniture from our Kansas City abode (see our home tour here) fit perfectly into the new space; that is with the exception of our extremely tiny closet we now share.  Let’s just say that is not the only thing I miss from that awesome house.

It’s been a little less than a year since we moved down to Dallas and of course I am starting to get the itch to change things up a bit, but a little birdy keeps telling me just to wait a little longer.  Instead of buying big pieces that might not make sense in our next house, I decided to switch up the sofa pillows, add some lamps, and swap out our old bedding for a new linen duvet (thanks to Patrick’s siblings for the wedding gift!).So hold tight because it’s just a matter of time before I start talking interiors again :)

Brrrr… it is cold.

Well, in comparison to the rest of the country I think Dallas has it pretty good today. Currently, I am headed to New York for the weekend, so much for our goal to not travel as much in 2015 (we just can’t help ourselves). No better way to kick off the new year then with another adventure, especially to one of my favorite cities.

We will be exploring the city like little kids in a candy store, since Patrick has not been to New York since he was ten years old. There is no better way to explore the city than to walk everywhere, so we are prepared to be bundled up and pop into places like the Met and MoMA and maybe for a few cocktails here and there. Other things on our agenda are ice skating in Central Park (something to check off my bucket list) and to see the 9/11 Memorial.  You can follow our first adventure of 2015 over on Instagram, @adashofdetails.

To be honest whenever I try an up-do, I end up looking more like a hot mess. (please tell me I am not alone on this).

Last week I was invited to attend FORM Hair Education with a few of my favorite Dallas blogger girls.  This event could not have come at a better time since Holiday parties are in full swing and I needed some ideas about how to switch it up from my normal, down and curled look.

FORM Hair Education was created by the extremely talented Whitney Haynes when she found that her passion was teaching others. FORM was created as a “community of hair professionals committed to the growth of [their] craft, creativity, and continuing education.” The best part is they teach their clients to style their hair like a pro in just a short amount of time.  Each of their classes are customized and try to have you leaving the course with the knowledge to repeat the look at home.  I loved how Whitney and the other stylist made a point to come over and give me tips on how to create the look for my texture and length of hair.

FORM Hair Education has four courses; Beautiful Blow Dry (I am going to be taking this one next!), Perfect Ponytail, Glamorous Curls, and Tousled Up-Do Style- this is the class we took last week which was perfect in time for those little LBD’s or low back dresses.

Here are a few things I learned (honestly, I was really nervous I was going to be terrible at this!)

1. We started with slightly curled hair. Especially if you have fine hair like me, you want to give it a little added texture for the hair pins and bobby pins. IE: the curls do not need to be perfect or pretty, so you can do this in under 5 minutes.

2. Create a Base: The most important thing we learned is you only really need a handful of pins to create a tousled look that will stay all night.  The base is created by sectioning your hair into sections. Take the back section and roll it up in your hand and secure with two long pins, then play with the sides to soften the look. The best tip we received is to only use pins to anchor your hair down. Hair pins (the ones that are open v shapes) should be used the rest of the time to create a more tousled, undone look.

3. Have fun: Playing around with the front pieces is key to creating a look that you love, but don’t pin down until you are done playing or else you will have to start from the beginning!

I cannot wait to take another course, especially the “beautiful blow-dry” class! I along with the other Dallas bloggers at the course loved our experience so much that we have teamed up with FORM Hair Education to give away one seat in the class of your choice! FORM Hair Education is currently only available in Dallas, but be sure to check out their website for more information,

Yipppeee. So glad that it is Friday and the start to the weekend. I have been fighting off a cold all week which turned into me missing a ton of events and fun things going on in Dallas. I spent a lot of time sleeping, working from bed, and snuggling with my puppies and now I am finally feeling better just in time for the weekend.

Do you have any holiday parties to attend this weekend? I am still waiting to wear my favorite festive skirt (thanks to my darn cold).  I have a cookie exchange on Sunday and plan to wear something warm and cozy. Any recommendations on what kind of cookies to make? One of my favorite holiday traditions from when I lived at home was when my mom and I used to make cookie baskets for all of her clients. We would spend all weekend baking and delivering the baskets to her favorite people.  It was such a treat, especially because we always made a few extras for us!

Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend! If you are still in need of holiday gift ideas, be sure to take a peek at my Gift Guide– just click the images to shop!

It has been a while since my last Love You post.  That is because, well, life is really good right now (and sadly, this space has been a little neglected).  We have been traveling non-stop for both work and personal reasons. From New York to Boston to Arizona to Kansas City to Vail back to Kansas City, we are actually home for the first time for an entire weekend since August. Needless to say, I am slightly exhausted but I really cannot complain because I have been having the time of my life.  This weekend I plan to switch my closet from Summer to Fall, catch up with friends over drinks, do a couple workout classes, and curl up with a blanket and my DRV.

What are your plans this weekend?
