LATELY

So I know it is Tuesday, but this weekend really caught up with me yesterday. I am still trying to get back in the swing of things when the team is back in town during the weekends.  The work-life-blog balance will eventually get back to normal.  This weekend was pretty gloomy up until Sunday when the sun came out. It was one of those days when all you wanted to do was be outside.  So that is exactly what I did. Saturday consisted of some fun errands with Michelle and we meant business.  I found some awesome coffee table books at Half Price Books for next to nothing (thanks Art Institute students), finally decided on fabric for our benches and pillows, scored this pot at Nell Hills for $30, naturally I had to get a fiddle leaf to go inside- lets hope I have a green thumb. Oh and I stumbled upon some awesome blue and white lamps at HomeGoods.

So if you read this blog on the daily, you know that the weather has been less than ideal in Kansas City. That is; except for this past Sunday.  I tried to cherish every moment of the day because I knew it was not going to last long. When it is nice my job definitely has its perks, so I took in a little of the game, went on a long walk with the dogs through Mission Hills, enjoyed some fresh berries on our back deck and ended the night by finally opening perfect bottle of wine in Michelle’s gorgeous backyard.  With this new week and some not ideal weather headed our way (possible snow in the forecast), I am going to enjoy every last bit of sunlight.

COFFEE TALK

There is something you need to know about me, I am kind of A-Type.  Especially when it comes to my house.  I get totally embarrassed when someone stops by and I see old mail on the kitchen table or a glass in the sink. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a clean freak, but I like to have everything in its place. I mean I even make my bed the second I wake up in the morning, pillows and all (I guess my mom taught me well, I was always told I had to make my bed before we could leave the house).  The reason I am telling this story is because I normally wouldn’t show you this instagram above because the blanket on the sofa is not folded and two because there is still plastic on the floor from the box. But I decided to suck it up for the sake of showing you our new coffee table, in all of its clear beauty.  There are two things I love about coffee tables, one because I can finally set my drink down when watching tv (I know, I am lazy) and two so that I can finally add some color and accessories to my neutral living room. Since the table is clear, there is a definite need for some large books to fill the space, and of course some good smelling candles.  I also found these darling accessories on this new-to-me online shop called Waiting on Martha, the shop has some darn cute things and to make it even better at reasonable prices.

The Big Book of Chic / Tom Ford (one of my all time favorties) / Visionaire / the Ivy League / Diptyque Roses / Diptyque Mimosa / Starburst Statue /  BLUE PEDRA AGATE COASTERS

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Now that we finally have all of our “big” furniture orders complete, like our sofa and chair, and this coffee table that arrives today. I am so excited to fill in with the little details, like pillows and art, and of course some great coffee table books.  I have been struggling to pick a color pallet for the living room. At first I wanted everything to be white. Ya know, like white walls, white sofa, pillows, you name it but then I snapped back into reality and realized that I have two 65 pound dogs that like to snuggle.  So, there I was with no ideas and had to change my entire plan (and of course it was for the better).  We ended up with a neutral linen that pretty much goes with just about anything, and a cream wool knotted rug that Patrick still thinks was a mistake (I obviously disagree).  So here is the other dilemma, I found these awesome tufted ottomans on Craigslist that definitely need some love and new fabric but I was still struggling on a color pallet. Well, that was until a few days ago when I came across these Rebecca Atwood pillows.  Talk about perfect timing, it was like someone took the idea out of my head.  I am obsessed with the two tone, one of a kind pillows with the perfect gold detail on the zipper.  Immediately I ordered these and these for the sofa, and still on the lookout for the perfect fabric for the ottomans, but at least I have a little direction now.  If any of you lovely readers have great fabric sites, I would love to hear!

PRICKLY

With this gloomy, cold weather in full force in Kansas City I have been getting the winter blues and seriously missing Arizona.  Growing up in a place where 95% of the days are filled with sunshine and above normal temps, you get accustom (some call it spoiled) to eating outside, hiking, and wearing open toed shoes year round.  Moving to Kansas City was definitely an adjustment when it came to weather. I do absolutely love having all four seasons, even watching snow fall, but nothing compares to a warm March day in AZ. Since I moved, I try to make it home at least five times a year to visit family and friends, and I am certainly do for another trip.  But with lots of weddings and work events this year, it is definitely hard to make a spur of the moment trip happen.  So here I am, slightly homesick and needing a little AZ pick me up. I suppose these cacti will do for now and the thought of 85 degrees.

SKULLS AND SUCH

Happy Weekend! For us here in Kansas City, we got an early start because of the snow storm, but I am so excited it’s Friday.  Since Patrick is not here this weekend, I have a huge to-do list to conquer that involves cleaning the entire house, drinks with the girls, finally hanging a few pictures and ordering a few more (I will get to that in a minute), and watching the Academy Awards on Sunday. Also, remember when I posted earlier this week about cleaning out my closet, well thanks to the snow storm yesterday and being locked inside all day, I purged about forty pieces and I am ready to go donate and sell a few things this weekend.

So anywho, aren’t these still life prints amazing.  I was searching for new art on Etsy this week and I came across Lucy Snowe and her amazing work.  I love the mix of feminine and masculine in each piece, especially how the still life’s just pop off the page.  A while back we bought these white frames from IKEA and these prints are the perfect size. Once the place finally comes together, I promise to share some pictures.

Oh and big news, our couch is finally being delivered. I don’t think I have ever been so excited about a piece of furntiure in my life.

SNOW DAY

Snowmagedon…. well, that is what they keep calling it on the news. Being from Arizona, I am so lost when it comes to snow storms.  Everyone kept telling me to go buy eggs and milk, keep my faucet dripping, and find a high school kid on the block to shovel the driveway for you.  Well, I did all of those things and I am safe and sound (thanks to all of my friends) but, I am just loving the snow (well, and being able to work from home).

It is pretty crazy because my family and a few friends called me yesterday and told me it was snowing in Scottsdale. But, when they say snow, I mean a light dusting, like you run outside to take a picture and it is gone.  So today I am a little out of my element, but I am loving every second of it.

THE CLEANOUT

“Out with the old and in with the new.” Well, when it comes to my closet.

When we moved into our new place back in December, one of the things I was most excited about was the size of the closets (yes, closets as in plural- insert screams here). Going from a little armoire in college, to a slightly larger one in my last apartment, to know two walk in closets in the new place is slightly incredible. So I have to admit, I may have a slight shopping addiction.  Not the kind that is out of control, and I have never used a credit card to pay for anything, but I just love walking into a perfectly organized store to admire the new clothes on the racks. My goal for the week is to clean out my closet, get rid of anything I haven’t worn in the last year and clear out the clutter.  I hate to even say this, but lately I walk into my closet and say to myself “I have nothing to wear” as I stare at a full closet of clothes, so it is time to refresh, buy new matching hangers and not allow myself to buy anything new until I I have an empty hanger.  Do any of you have this rule?  I decided this was the best way to get rid of the old and only allow myself to buy classic investment pieces for my wardrobe.

BREAKFAST IN BED

So I’ll be honest, I had all the best intentions on making pancakes this weekend to celebrate National Pancake day today. Unfortunately for Patrick,  I was totally lazy on Sunday morning and we ended up with some box made blueberry muffins instead.  Thankfully, Patrick was still grateful for any kind of breakfast in bed.  It is one of our favorite things to do on Sunday mornings, and secretly I wish that someone would magically make breakfast for us so we never had to get out of bed before noon.  (these are the weird things I think about sometimes). Well, the muffins ended up being delish and they were a perfect way to jump start our productive Sunday.  Do ya’ll have a Sunday morning ritual?

THINGS

Is it Monday already?  The weekend just flew by and I have continued my goal to have productive weekends in 2013, although it is only the 2nd weekend of the year.  I finally put my office together, but I still need a few more necessities before I give you a peek inside. I deep cleaned the house, Michelle and I started working on an exciting new project, I bought my first ever Paperwhite (and hopefully it blooms), did Fusion Fire, and watched the new season of GIRLS and the Golden Globes.

Oh and for the pictures, I promised Patrick that I would take pictures with my camera at least once a week since I got my new lens, in order to start really learning how to use it.  I plan to take a class in the next month so if anyone has a suggestion for a studio in Kansas City, I would love to know!
